This Aram Hotel is in the Capitol Building where Capitol Cinema Theatre is there exactly opposite to the famous Central Railway Station Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus near Mumbai Municipal Corporation Head Office Building. This Hotel has long history as it is opened before India's Independence. The Hotel is opened by Shri.Shrirang Tambe who came from Village Koldhe, Tal. Lanja, Dist.Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. The hotel is opened on 09/08/1939. Initially only milk and fresh milk products which were prepared by Shri Shrirang and his wife were available and gradually Batatavada, Misal, Kothimbir Vadi, etc were made available. The Hotel was managed by Shrirang Tambe, then his sons Madhukar and Madhav Tambe. Now Kaustubh Madhav Tambe is managing the hotel. Here we get the True Taste of Maharashtrian food. All Mumbaikars like Parsis, Gujaratis, Marwadies, South Indians, North Indians, etc visit and enjoy the Maharashtrian True Taste Food here. Now Thalipeeth, fastFood, Zunakabhakar etc also available. The Batatavada, etc prepared at this hotel have been tasted by late S/Shri Balasaheb Thackeray, Rajiv Gandhi, etc. prominent personalities. Here instead of Badishep, AwalaSupari made by P.D.Vaidhya & Sons is kept for after eating freshness. A separate AramVada Parcel Service is on its left side and people coming from all corners of India eat it there and also carry parcels wherever they go. All heritage buildings are nearby. This Hotel is equally liked by all Mumbaikars as well as Maharashtrians and Non Maharashtrians from India.

A 80+ year old restaurant must something right. The food is simple, quickly served in a relatively clean environment, at reasonable prices. The location right opposite CST helps as well. There was a huge lineup just for the quintessential Vada Pav outside. This ensures that Vadas are always fresh and hot. They don’t put butter so it is naturally vegan. I was alone so on a table to sit 4 tightly, I was sharing table with two different unknown gentlemen. Misal Pav - Vegan - was absolutely a gem. The soft buns and a spicy Misal. Topped with red onions and some farsan giving you a crunch at every bite. A dash of lime and it was heaven. The Gavran Zunka Bhakri - Vegan and gluten free as well. The 2 rice flour Bhakri was so soft. I could just have that plain. The Zunka made from chickpea flour was mildly spiced, but perfectly seasoned. The red garlic chutney provided some heat. And onions added some crunch. The best ever - hands down. The kokum (mangosteen family fruit) sherbet was good. Wish I didn’t have travel 15k kms for this restaurant

Aaram Hotel near CST is one of those old school Mumbai food spots that has been serving people for over 80 years, which gives it a real sense of legacy and local character. It’s especially known for its misal pav and vada pav, both of which are spicy, flavorful, and feel very true to classic Mumbai taste. Prices are also quite reasonable for the fort location, usually around ₹40 to ₹120, so overall it’s a great place for a quick, satisfying bite with a genuine old city food vibe.

A modest, no frills, 400 sq ft area, crammed with tables. Menu is mostly Quick foods- food is on your table in 3 minutes. They depend on turnover. Quality is good, moderately spicy. Maharastrian style, upvas food, zunka bhaker, sheera, poha etc. Misal pav, pavbhaji, pulav, thalipeet , piyush are good. Decent price. Always crowded. Long lines during lunch hours. Be prepared to wait upto 30 mins. And be prepared to share tables. Just eat and go . Locational advantage exploited well.
