I am a happy amateur in fine dining ("chasing stars" since 2023, a couple every year), but I have to strongly disagree with the 3/5 reviews. From the restaurants I have tried, I would say only the 3 starred Hajime in Osaka places above or at the same level of Seta. I would even go as far as to say the menu I had - a tribute to black winter truffles - would be the perfect exemple to share with someone who doesn't understand why I love to visit places like this. The menu was full of knockout flavours, but the thing for me is that it is easy to make bold, rich flavours like truffles or the more gamey elements on the menu scream loudly, the real beauty here is that they sing in harmony with everything else. And this they managed to perfection in my opinion. Standouts/surprises for me was the fregola dish and the fantastic (and local) coffee. First time for me trying fregola and v60 filter coffee, but not the last! I also have to mention allowing me an off menu serving of the risotto and a chef's kiss touch of a birthday present even though I had not marked my booking as a "special occation". All of the staff was excellent, I don't know what else to say except thank you and hat's off to all of you. Finally the location as a whole deserves mentioning - the hotel and restaurant are stunning and beautifully located. Did not stay in the hotel, but just sitting in the lobby bar before dinner really set the tone.
We are not impressed by any dish at all. I am disappointed by how much tasting excitement they as a Michelin two stars have to offer. It is not so good as compared to other Michelin’s I had. The fish dishes were even very fishy in an unpleasant way. The food is just okay, but I have to be critical when they have two stars, with dishes not matched to that honor.
our servers were not thrilled that we opted to do ala carte rather than a tasting menu. we ordered champagne upon arrival- one of us had the rose champagne and the other had traditional. While both glasses were delicious, we noticed the pours on both glasses were quite small. We thought maybe this was the restaurant standard, but then we noticed our peers at the table next to us getting much larger pours. Come to find out that the one glass of champagne was 75 euros- it should have absolutely been slightly a larger pour. I have a picture for context. Also, the gentleman at the table next to us was vaping the whole time in the restaurant. It was also surprising to see that the ala carte serving sizes were the same sizes as those served in the tasting menus. The food was good, but it was not amazing. For 560 euros, we expected more.
Overall, I’m disappointed. The service and atmosphere were great, but the flavours were lacking. I prefer straightforward, balanced dishes, and these seemed to have an uneven mix of ingredients. My expectations were high given its Michelin two-star status, but the reality was underwhelming.
Wonderful food and fantastic staff. We had the Ten Years anniversary menu. Every course was beautifully presented and tasted delicious (although the Eel wasn't to out taste). Very highly recommended for a special dinner.
