Renowned cocktail bar with sophisticated, traditional decor, serving signature Negroni Sbagliatos.via Google

The historic neighborhood bar where the Negroni Sbagliato (made with prosecco instead of gin) was accidentally invented.

Great spot for all the classic cocktails, generous (and endless) tapas provided. Must try the absurdly large negroni, but the gin martini, cosmopolitan and manhattan also excellent. Very reasonable prices for a city. Highly recommended!!

The Soul of Milanese Drinking: Bar Basso If you want to experience the heart of Milanese cocktail culture, Bar Basso is an essential pilgrimage. Stepping inside feels like a journey back in time, where mid-century elegance meets a vibrant, local energy. While the wood-paneled interior is charmingly nostalgic, the real star is the Negroni Sbagliato. Invented here by mistake in 1972, this "broken" Negroni replaces gin with sparkling wine, creating a drink that is refreshingly light yet sophisticated. Served in their iconic, oversized scenographic glassware with a hand-cut block of ice, it is more than just a cocktail—it is a piece of Milanese history. Whether you are a design enthusiast during Salone del Mobile or a traveler seeking an authentic aperitivo, Bar Basso offers an unmatched atmosphere. It remains a masterclass in how a simple "mistake" can become a worldwide legend.

I stopped here for a quick lunch, but the experience was quite disappointing. The service was extremely poor — slow, inattentive, and not particularly welcoming. I ordered a simple toast, and what arrived was surprisingly small — honestly one of the smallest portions I’ve ever seen. It didn’t feel worth the price at all. To make things worse, they didn’t even have basic options like Coca-Cola Zero available. Overall, not a place I would recommend if you’re looking for decent service or value for money.

The location was great. The tables outside, in front of greenery, made the space feel like a garden, even though you know you’re in the city. The atmosphere was pleasant. The huge spritz glasses were surprising and original, as I’ve never seen that type before. The biggest downside was that the service was much slower than I expected. I also found the prices to be a bit high compared to the average aperitivo prices in Milan.

We stopped by Bar Basso in Milan for a quick drink, and it turned out to be a nice experience. The drinks were excellent, and the place offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The food was just okay, but the service can be a bit slow. That said, the lively vibe makes up for it — the place is quite popular among youngsters and has a great atmosphere to unwind with friends.
