Had a fantastic stay at Freehand Miami! The atmosphere is vibrant, stylish, and perfect for travelers looking for a unique Miami experience. The staff was welcoming and helpful throughout my stay, and the property was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the beach and close to many local attractions. The pool area is relaxing, and the on-site food and drinks were great. Whether you're traveling solo, with friends, or as a couple, Freehand Miami offers outstanding value, a fun social vibe, and a memorable stay. Highly recommended, and I would definitely return!
Outside patio and area: from the pictures I was imagining a quiet, luxurious space to quietly journal, maybe soft music playing. In reality, it was always pretty crowded and very loud music playing, and people smoking all around me. It wasn’t very relaxing. So I didn’t end up spending time here. The pool is beautiful. I definitely took pictures in the evenings. After 5pm, The hotel guests are not allowed to stay in the chairs and tables unless they are partaking in the restaurant so most of us sat in the loungechairs by the pool and this was nice. I never saw anyone actually swimming in the pool. If you’re going thinking it’s more of a hostel you may be disappointed. the lobby is kept absolutely freezing, and doesn’t feel very welcoming to hang out for a long. There are no common areas and no kitchen, no refrigerator, no freshwater, no coffee even to purchase. So this made things a little more difficult. Think of it as a hotel and if you’re sharing a room, you’re sharing with complete strangers and it can be difficult. You share one bathroom together and the lockers are nowhere near the beds and are pretty small. The beds are large and comfortable, but there are no curtains for privacy. There is one bed that the air-conditioning just straight blows on, so that can be very cold and a little unsanitary breathing that in. The other issue is with three other strangers other people are turning the air-conditioning off and raising the temperature and I feel that there should be a note on the air conditioning with the rules because some people truly don’t care about the other people in their room. I would like to say that the manager was amazing and immediately came into my room to help solve the situation (of a roommate constantly unplugging the air-conditioning) I also want to say that all of the staff I encountered were very nice and professional, and I appreciate them so much. Also want to say that the bed and pillows were very comfortable. I was choosing generator Miami and then got placed here when they changed ownership so above all, I appreciate that I still had a place to stay. But in the future, I prefer hostels that have separate bathrooms and lockers right next to the beds and other amenities like kitchens and refrigerators and water. I was very dehydrated during my visit. But I understand this is probably more of a hotel so this is just a personal preference for me I will be more aware of in my future. I do really appreciate the kindness of the stuff that I met.
Staying at Freehand Miami? Do your research. You get exactly what you pay for in terms of room and board. For the price, I booked a Female Quad and it came to about $40 USD for the night. I was staying one night just prior to a cruise. This is extremely affordable in Miami beach area. The location is perfect, its far away from all the hustle and bustle and noise, but close enough that all transportation comes right through the area. Starbucks is about 500 feet away (walking) and there are plenty of food selections close by. They provide a top sheet and towel when you check-in. They let me store my luggage until check-in, and staff were all friendly and pleasant. One lady whom I can only assume was management made sure that I was taken care of after waiting in the lobby for my bed to be ready. They gave me a keycard which did not work on the 2nd floor and re-assigned me to floor 3. The only downfall was the bicycles being out of ordering being repaired. I was looking forward to biking down to South Beach. But I chose to walk to Lincoln Street for shopping. You can take bus 100 from MIA airport to the bus stop right in front of the Freehand for 2.25 USD one way. The outdoor pool area is exceptional, and they have security standing watch over the place. I ordered a burger from the restaurant out back and it was actually really tasty. The bartender was lovely. I did see one person swimming and the morning of my cruise I was able to relax in the pool area with a coffee from Starbucks. With Miami heat, my clothes were sweated-through so I did a load of laundry for 2.50 (soap can be purchased at front desk) and dryer was 2.50. Only one washer and dryer were functional, which I had to wait for someone to finish their drying. Overall, for the price and location, I would stay again. The top bunk that I stayed in had an outlet to charge my phone, a lamp, and run my travel fan for noise cancellation. The only thing I would suggest to Freehand that others have also noted is adding more privacy curtains. I liked and preferred the top bunks, so no one could stare at me while sleeping, but would have preferred even more coverage. Be mindful that you need to bring your own locks (as I did) for your suitcase and the small locker provided, and the bathroom does not have hand towels or floor towels for showering. Would also maybe bring bathroom spray, for smells.
The vibe is super chill and easygoing, perfect if you just want to relax but also meet people. I have to mention Nico at the reception because he was genuinely so kind and helpful the whole time. He always had a smile, and whenever I needed something he just sorted it out right away without making it a big deal. It made everything feel really easy and comfortable. Overall, I felt really good staying here!
