Ranked #2 in the top 50 cocktail bars in the world. Innovative and exotic cocktails and pretty cool entrance and vibe. I recommend doing reservation in advance (reservation window is 2 weeks and it fills up quickly). There is a 90-min time limit for your table which I think is sufficient to have 3-4 rounds of drinks (the staff were quick and efficient).
Don’t let the elite global ranking intimidate you - Handshake has zero pretension. The waiters are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and happy to explain the menu in English. The cocktails are mind-blowing my good, literally the best I’ve ever tasted, and they even give you a tray of snacks to go with them. Five world class drinks plus tip came out to 110 USD. As a New Yorker, that value blow my mind. Couldn’t recommend it more. It’s definitely one of the reasons I want to visit Mexico City again in the future.
I'd return here and am glad I made a reservation. They had good unique cocktails, but nothing that truly wowed or that I'd want to order a second of or try and recreate. Great atmosphere and excellent service. Very limited food. Earl Grey - super unique, small, refreshing Sparkling Jasmine N/A - very good, although the poor is very small Matcha Yuza - strong matcha, fun, not a crowd favorite Once a time in Oxaca- just strong in many dimensions. Good but kind of just strong. Not a crowd favorite. Mushroom butter Old fashioned - crowd favorite, very buttery. No mushroom. Camomile sparkling N/A - too sweet Negroni short - good but not special Note you really need a reservation here. People waiting without one had a 2-4 hour wait standing in a hotel lobby. This place isn't good enough to wait. There are plenty of other great bars. Also, the filtered water served tastes strongly of chemicals. Not great at an establishment focused on taste and smell. It was undrinkable.
Went while on vacation. It was fine, but did not seem that exceptional. The food was good, the drinks were good but it was in alignment with a number of other bars I've been to. Given the need for reservations well in advance, the rushed pace of having to leave within an hour and a half, the loud atmosphere, and the lack of 5 star attention, I wouldn't go out of your way to go here. Overall it's fine, but overhyped.
A truly stunning speakeasy experience! Finding the entrance through a hidden staircase was a special experience right from the start, and the staff were incredibly welcoming as they guided us to our seats. The ambience had a great balance between intimate and lively, and it was still easy to hold a conversation. Every drink we tried was outstanding with layered flavors. We tend to prefer sweeter drinks, and the drinks fully delivered without being overly heavy or one-dimensional. The PB&J, guava & jasmine, cookies & cream, and banana split were all highlights, and the small treats paired alongside were a lovely touch. Toward the end of the 90-minute seating, they gently checked in for last rounds and wrapped things up smoothly. Overall, it easily stands out as one of the best bar experiences we’ve had. Reservations open two weeks in advance on OpenTable, and while they book up quickly, be sure to sign up for waitlist since spots do open up closer to the date.
