El Vilsito is one of Mexico City’s most iconic taquerías and has even been recognised by Michelin — and it absolutely lives up to the hype. The tacos here are cooked al carbón, giving them that smoky, irresistible flavour that keeps people coming back. Their taco al pastor is excellent: deeply seasoned, juicy, perfectly cooked, and finished with just the right touch of sweet pineapple. I always eat it with their guacamole salsa, which is packed with generous chunks of avocado and takes everything to the next level. One of the things that makes El Vilsito truly unique is that it operates inside a working mechanic workshop — yes, cars are being repaired while tacos are being grilled. It’s pure Mexico City character. Beyond pastor, many people swear by the pastor volcanes and the bistec con queso torta. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the flavours deliver every time. A must-visit taquería in the city. 📍 Follow me on my social media for more Mexican food content. YouTube, Instagram & Tik Tok: Chinita Food Travel Sandra Lau

Some of the best Tacos I’ve had. Mechanic shop making stellar tacos. What could be more unique. El Pastor is king here, Pork with pineapple. The tacos are amazing, can get “gringa style” for flour tortilla and some other toppings. The volcanos come as a pair they are warm and mixed with cheese on a crispy tortilla they are amazing. The Torta also incredible. Same cheese and meat mixture in a soft bun. Also the green Guacamole salsa is amazing. Highly recommend trying all 3. English is limited there.

The service was the best service I’ve ever received in my life. Tristan is the GOAT! What a man! Tacos were so so so good! Didn’t love the chicken torta as much as the tacos but I don’t think anything was gonna be as good as the tacos….10/10 would reccomend!

As a Mexican who has lived abroad for more than ten years, every time I return to my hometown I go on a personal mission to find the best taco al pastor. I can confidently say that El Vilsito is still in my top two—just below Juan Bisteces (same owner), which offers the same outstanding quality with a bit more comfort. Beyond the taco, the torta al pastor is exceptional—juicy, indulgent, and perfectly balanced, with bread that holds up to the meat without stealing the spotlight. And the agua de horchata is exactly what it should be: cold, creamy, and not overly sweet—the perfect counterpoint to the richness of the pastor.

From Oil Changes to Life-Changing Tacos! 🌮🔧 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Forget the fancy white-tablecloth spots—if you want the most authentic, "spicy" vibe in Mexico City, you have to go to El Vilsito. Monica and I are still dreaming about this place! The Vibe: 5/5 It’s a literal auto mechanic shop by day, but when the sun goes down, the tools are put away and the trompos (giant spits of al pastor) come out. Seeing the "Taco Tony" sign glowing and eating tacos right in front of the car lifts is an experience you won't find anywhere else. It’s gritty, loud, fast, and absolutely brilliant. The Food: 5/5 The Al Pastor is king here. We watched the masters slice the pork and flick the pineapple onto the taco with total precision—it’s like a performance art piece. I have photos of Monica diving into these, and her face says it all: total taco bliss. The meat was perfectly charred, the salsas had that perfect kick, and the energy of the crowd made everything taste even better. Final Verdict: This was hands-down one of our favorite stops in CDMX. It’s the kind of place that reminds you why you travel. If you don't mind eating standing up surrounded by fellow taco lovers and the smell of a garage, you’ll have the time of your life.
