First meal in Mexico City and could not have picked a better place. El Califa just sets the bar straight away for what good tacos should taste like. The tacos were really well made — fresh, flavorful, proper portions. But honestly the salsa selection is what took it to the next level. So many options and every single one was good, you just keep going back for more. Great way to kick off a Mexico City trip. If this is what the food is like here, I’m in trouble. Would definitely go back. 🌮🇲🇽
We had just landed in Mexico City and this place was next to our hotel, so we gave it a try. Pastor tacos were pretty good, and service was quick and friendly. They had a version of Pastor over lettuce which we liked quite a bit, bigger portion than the single taco (but obviously for a higher price). The one item I wasn't a fan was the Costra Arrachera, I felt it was too much cheese vs meat. Great spicy sauces, awesome smoky flavors (you can buy them to go). Desserts were pretty good too, we had the Tres Leches covered in Cajeta. This is a place we could come back for sure.
Amazing tacos with great flavor and perfectly fresh ingredients! The food is well-seasoned, and the service is fast and friendly. Nice casual vibe, clean space, and excellent salsa bar. A must-visit spot for classic Mexico City tacos!
Good food, quick to come out, attentive service, and there are a lot of people during lunch so the high turnover is a good sign. All in all good spot for a quick and unpretentious lunch.
Excellent Mexican food in a great location near El Ángel. Friendly service and easy to reach on foot while exploring Reforma. The frijoles de la olla are outstanding, and the tacos offer plenty of options, including different meats and vegan choices. They also have excellent beverages, especially the bottled “ORITA: Agave Pop” low calorie lemonade, which is delicious and apparently offered only at El Califa. The tacos are a little small for the price, but its a very good stop for authentic Mexican food in the area. Recomendation: ask for cilantro, onion and pineapple to be added to some tacos (like the ARRACHERA) since for some reason they were served plain. This happened both times I visited this place.
