I was a little skeptical before I dined at Contramar, as I was disappointed at some other very highly rated restaurants in CDMX during this visit. Contramar was fantastic!!! I had the best tuna tostadas ever! To a point that I went the next day to have them again. We also tried the Aquachilles, red clam cevice, oysters and the half and half fish. They were all fantastic. The green salsa and the habernaro pickled onions when added to your food, adds an amazing touch to all the dishes. The servers were very friendly and helpful. We had the passion fruit/ mango desert and even that was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant all day.

One word to describe this experience: disappointing. As a preface, the service was outstanding. Our waiter, Ramon, was very kind and attentive, as was the manager. Beyond that, everything was shockingly mid! To start, we had the tuna and shrimp tostadas, which were quite good. As our main course, we had the pescado a la talla estilo contramar, which I was very excited about. The presentation was beautiful, and the waiter showing us how to serve the fish was a nice touch. HOWEVER, upon trying the food, we found that the fish was lukewarm and shockingly flavorless. Given Contramar’s popularity and how highly regarded it is, I was expecting an explosion of flavor. The level of blandness was mind boggling. I swear they didn’t put even a pinch of salt on the fish. I said something because it was shockingly bad. Thankfully, they brought another one out which I thought was better, albeit nothing that makes my mouth water thinking about it now. So me and my boyfriend were really holding out hope for the dessert. We’re long distance (DC to CDMX) so every dinner we have together matters more, and I was really praying that the dinner would end on a high note. Unfortunately, they were OUT of the strawberry merengue. I will admit I was so disappointed that a few tears were shed. We ended up getting the fig tart that I liked but my boyfriend didn’t. At least we bonded on the walk home—30 minutes of complaining! I would advise anyone reading this to pass on contramar unless you want to pay thousands of pesos to be disappointed.

This was my third time dining at Contramar, and somehow it gets better every single visit. The consistency in quality, service, and hospitality is truly unmatched. Every meal here has been memorable, but this latest trip was especially special because I celebrated my 29th birthday here. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff for always being so kind, welcoming, and attentive. Although I can’t remember the name of the wonderful server who helped us during our first visit two years ago, the level of care has remained the same every time we return. This trip, we came back two days in a row because we loved it that much. A very special thank you to Javier, Jesus, Edgar, and Paulina for making me feel so celebrated and genuinely cared for. You all made me feel like family, and that kind of warmth is rare to find. The food, atmosphere, and service are all exceptional, but it’s the people who truly make Contramar unforgettable. Can’t wait to come back again.

We had the most beautiful dinner at Contramar. The service was impeccable! The tuna tostadas, battered shrimp tacos, and the strawberry meringue pie was delicious. All of the food was so fresh and so flavorful. One of the best meals I’ve ever had!

OMG! Best restaurant I’ve been to Mexico city so far! It may be tough to get in and reservations in advance might help but still we were able to get in (we were 2) - tuna tostadas is great! They make el pastor with fish which is great since I don’t eat pork and it was lovely. They also have complimentary sides ( salsa, nachos, guacamole) and bottled water. They speak good english they even have an English menu which is exactly the same as their spanish but only translated iykyk! This was an incredible experience and they were awesome A MUST DO! When I was traveling to Mexico someone local said to me “if they offered food, don’t say no!” - when it was dessert time they asked do you wanna see the dessert menu, and we were more full than what we thought we’d be and said no they were like what do you mean? Even the two guests sitting besides us in the bar were like wdym! Our server offered us just to see the me u and it was honestly so hard to choose lots of great options we had the banofee pie and we loved it. Great experience! Thank you!
