We went twice during our Melbourne trip and loved everything we ordered. The pizza, lentil curry, grain salad, tacos, everything was amazing. But the standout was definitely the banana tarte: award-winning potential! To the chef: we heard this is only on the temporary menu. Please keep it!! 😃

The two stars are for both the halves of the katsu sando I had—incredible. Unfortunately that was about it for my grand return visit to Vegie Bar for the first time in many years. I was keen to sit outside, but only after settling in with my jacket and two bags did the server tell me I’d have to go inside to the counter to order. Being a solo diner with my jacket and two bags meant that wasn’t really going to be easy for me to do, so I relocated inside. My order was taken fairly swiftly by a server with the Gen Z Stare, and I mentioned I was keen for dessert after—could I keep the dessert menu? No? You’ll bring one back over? Ok great! Sando, a nice green juice, and the most disgusting can of cider I’ve encountered in a long time were delivered fairly swiftly to the table. I was then ignored for the rest of my time in the restaurant, despite sitting right near the entry. I sat for 15 minutes or so until I got up to use the bathroom, taking my jacket and two bags with me seeing as I seemed a bit invisible, and when I came back out of the bathroom I wish I’d just kept walking out the door.

Service was genuinely good, and our server Alicia deserves credit — she’s only a few shifts in but was warm, attentive, and clearly did her best to make our visit enjoyable. Respect to her. 🙏 Food-wise, mixed experience. My partner’s Yaki Udon had decent flavor and was the stronger of the two dishes. Unfortunately, my Burgernator… not so much. I’m guessing it’s a Terminator-inspired burger, but this one should probably be sent back in time and removed from the menu — “Hasta la vista, baby.” 🍔😅 The patty tasted very processed, quite dry, and lacked flavor overall. Easily the low point of the meal. I don’t enjoy leaving critical feedback, but I think removing or reworking the burger would genuinely improve the menu. With better food consistency, this place could shine more, because the service is already on the right track.
