Nunnery hostel : ( my favorite honestly) The stuff doesn’t live there but they are very welcoming. It was like more a big family and the sitting area was open all the night so people either watched movies and partied the other side . It is so big and place in Australia that have millions toilets. It took me weeks to know around the area so you can choose to be whatever you want to ( party or quiet). Also it has one big advantage, it has a lot of place you can be alone like the top floor that faces the Melbourne area . It is called nunnery for a reason. FYI I had room 3 which I had the second toilet so maybe my opinion is different. But it has a lot of big rooms with different things and toilets are everywhere. It is where you can chose what you want to do if you are interest with people or stay alone. I enjoyed every minute I stayed there and met amazing people. We literally organized amazing Halloween party and used to have movie night's. I hope you get the love I got from this hostel. My favorites are the staff , thank you guys for always smiling and welcoming.
What a magical hostel! Never have I ever had so many friends and so much fun in my life. Yes the accommodation isn’t amazing but the ambiance of the old building is beautiful. Stained glass windows, big corridors, little ally ways and the best court yard. I just remember laughing all the time, there always someone to talk to, chill with, go out with. For me only the happiest of memories. However one person in particular made this dream a nightmare. The lady at reception with the long dark hair made me and other people deeply upset at times as she was unfair, unbothered and seemed to have people she liked and people she didn’t. She never seemed to warm up to anyone and I spent most of my stay in fear. However the other staff especially Nicola and lexi were just incredible, best receptionist I’ve seen at a hostel. Hopefully this magical place continues to be so and that lady decides to start being kinder as it doesn’t cost anything to be nice.
I stayed here for a few months recently. Well, OK - it was 1992, but one of my abiding memories of life is standing on the fire escape outside the top floor of the rear of this hostel contemplating life and smoking rollups. Regular ones, not the devil's lettuce. The view over the city from that vantage point was fantastic. Back then, The Nunnery was a wonderful place. It does sound like things might be a bit more run down these days, however it's a lovely old building and I wish the current team all the best in keeping it going.
Very disappointing experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, the front desk staff member with dark hair was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which immediately set a negative tone. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and clearly very old — you could feel the springs the entire time, making it difficult to get proper rest. There was also noticeable drug activity around the property, including weed and harder substances, and it appeared that some people were couch surfing there. The overall environment felt unsafe, especially as a serious incident occurred during our stay where someone was stabbed and taken to hospital. The only positives were the nice outdoor area and clean bathrooms. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweighed these, and I would not stay here again.
wouldn't recommend, for overall vibes. unless u like it 'rustic'. biggest problem are the showers!! it's either no hot water or burning hot. other residents are nice and facilities are clean. receptionist isn't particularly welcoming. i would avoid.
