Best place to smoke a cigar in Melbourne. Service is perfectly friendly and professional whilst remaining relaxed too. Depending on when you arrive, be prepared for a wait on the stairs- but it's worth it once you've been seated.
We stopped in for a brief yet delightful visit before dinner with a local friend, treating ourselves to a few glasses of bubbly from the extensive menu of choices. The ambience of the bar was undeniably captivating, drawing us in with its inviting atmosphere. Situated above a fantastic Greek restaurant, the entire experience was nothing short of remarkable. A group of women were smoking cigars. Please enjoy the attached photos that capture the essence of our lovely evening.
**The Top Floor Experience (Because Apparently There Are Other Floors)** Arrived at 5:00:00 PM like a savage, desperate for a table. Despite being literally the first wave of humans through the door, securing a decent seat felt like trying to get Taylor Swift tickets. Spoiler: the stairmaster training paid off. Five. Flights. Of. Stairs. By floor three, I questioned every life choice. By floor four, I was having an out-of-body experience. By floor five, I emerged like a sweaty phoenix into... *Parliament House views*. Suddenly, the cardio made sense. **The Vibe:** Think "Mediterranean retirement home meets Bondi startup incubator." On one side: magnificently bronzed Italian gentlemen who've been smoking cigars since before I was born. On the other: twenty-somethings in vintage tees having their first existential crisis over secondhand smoke. It's like watching two different species cautiously share a watering hole. **The Menu Situation:** "Can I get food up here?" "No, but here's a $12 bag of Smith's served on our finest disposable dishware." The juxtaposition of expensive cigars and plastic platter crisps is *chef's kiss* confusing. Like wearing a tuxedo with Crocs. **Bottom Line:** Come for the cigars, stay for the people-watching, accept that your dinner will be salt & vinegar chips presented like they're foie gras. The restaurant downstairs probably serves actual food, but who has time for stairs after that initial climb? 10/10 would wheeze up those stairs again. 🚬
There are many places in Melbourne where you can sip world-class cocktails. Siglo is not one of them; it’s an overhyped terrace that wants to be hip but offers overpriced, subpar drinks and mediocre service. At $30 dollars a pop you’d expect either perfectly mixed classics (with a premium since most cocktails in top places in Melbourne are $26-27) or else fanciful innovations. None of the above. Instead, behold the $30 Death Punch: a pineapple juice straight from a can served in a plain glass with perhaps some alcohol in it (definitely not mescal). A glorified soft drink that was almost dropped at our table by a waiter who didn’t want to be there. Bottom line: if you want to be robbed of your expectations and your money come to siglo.
I had high hopes based on the reviews, but unfortunately the experience fell short. Positives: The partially open rooftop bar has a lovely European vibe and is a nice spot for people-watching or catching up with friends. Service was quick and reasonably attentive. Negatives: There is no real food offering. The only options available were overpriced crisps, olives, and a box of Ritter chocolates. We ordered 1 signature gin based cocktail (which were average and watered down), a glass of the cheapest Riesling, and a bag of crisps. The bill came to $64.25 — and this was without the marinated olives we had ordered, which were forgotten and never acknowledged. Additionally, as it’s an outdoor venue, smoking is permitted, which detracts from the atmosphere. Overall, it was a big letdown. A pretentious, overpriced spot that feels completely out of touch. I wouldn’t recommend it.
