Just visited the Hokusai and Hiroshige exhibition with many exceptional prints in two large exhibition rooms. Manchester is very fortunate to have this free to visit space. Comparable exhibitions in London would be £20 for an adult to visit. This exhibition is a must see with prints that inspired Van Gogh and many others. There was a Rembrandt print of St Jerome in one of the adjacent rooms. The gardens at the back are a tranquil oasis and would be ideal for a picnic on a warm day
Beautiful free art gallery . You can see different exhibitions that are really worth the visit . You have an easy bus connection coming or going to the city centre with the bus stopping almost right in front of the gallery . The staff is really friendly and helpful . The building is really beautiful and you have a lovely park around the building . There are a few shops and eating places across the road as well. Definitely a place to visit .
No booking needed. This is a nice free art gallery. We enjoy both the exhibitions and the architecture. Also, the cafe offers a really nice food, coffee and views.
As ever, the building is stunning, the cafe delightful and the exhibitions superb. I went for the Hokusai and Hiroshige exhibition of Japanese prints which was amazing. Also loved the Trees exhibition (missed a trick in not calling it 'Brilliant Trees') and the works curated by those recovering from addiction. This was very moving and inspiring. Very, very pleased to see the copper mobile restored and on display again. I love the Whitworth so much that it is 100% worth spending 4 hours on a train from Birmingham to spend 2 hours in the gallery. Honestly, I'd visit to stare at the floor alone.
Such a fascinating exhibition of block printing, the great wave and other items. The most exquisite kimono. Beautiful pieces. A little busy on a Saturday lunchtime. Went back just before closing to get a better view. Can't recommend it enough.
