Really cute place with a lovely outdoor seating area and friendly staff. I had the cauliflower with house sauce which I enjoyed the most, the bao buns which were good but very messy to eat, and the beans which could have been a bit more flavorful. 2 tapas style dishes would have been enough for one person. Overall very nice spot for a meal.
Went here yesterday to celebrate my upcoming birthday. Overall it was a nice experience and the food as nice as I remember at their previous location. We were also running very late (40 mins) due to it now being impossible to drive/park in town - we ended up parking a 20 min walk away - however we were still accomodated which was a huge relief. However there were a few things I felt could have been improved. 1) We brought our furbaby with us and noone offered if she needed some water (we always carry water with us anyway) but if you are a dog friendly place you should be providing water for them - even just a regular bowl with water would of sufficed. 2) We had the afternoon tea but there were no lemon tarts on either and only 1 "egg" sandwich on each birdcage (despite it being a shared between 2 people.) No one said as to why this was missing and unfortunately I only realised today after relooking at the online menu. 3) I had put on my booking it was for a birthday celebration and noone wished me Happy Birthday. This is a small thing however from being to other places for celebrations this is tends to be the norm to acknowledge. 4) No one asked if we would like water for the table. My usual experience is this tends to be a given in many restaurants so I was a bit suprised this wasn't the norm upon arriving. Overall I would go back because the above can all be changed if The Allotment wanted to and there was nothing majorly wrong, however I do think a few tweaks could improve their Google rating.
Exceptional food and service. We visited for the first time. The staff were lovely, the service timely, food prepared with care and the presentation was beautiful. The hardworking staff also were extremely calm and professional when they had to cope with two extremely rude and entitled people, who had a mix up with a voucher company. They demanded free food, and then threatened to leave a one star review without good reason. They stormed out after the staff offered them a table and their lovely valentine’s menu option. Again, I want to clarify that this was our first visit, but we will definitely be back due to their excellent service and food. Thanks again!
My husband and I won a competition for a Valentine’s Day 3 course meal from The allotment vegan & vegetarian eatery and wow we’re we glad we did! We travelled from Birmingham and it was so worth it. The atmosphere there is welcoming and romantic. The staff made us feel so welcome when we arrived and were so friendly. The food was absolutely incredible too we couldn’t fault a thing. If you are in Manchester I would definitely recommend a visit!
We finally got round to going here, after waiting years! We booked in for 7.45 and found the restaurant very busy. We sat with no food or drink for 45mins before a waitress finally came to take our order, but did then give us complimentary drinks. The food also took over an hour to come out, and it was OK, but nothing particularly special- we probably could have gone to a standard restaurant instead for similar quality food. There were dirty tables from when we walked in, to when we left - having a dirty table behind us for 1.5hours is unacceptable. I then paid, and a 12.5% service charge was automatically added, which irritated me. I asked the waitress why the service was so poor, and she said a staff member had gone home sick. If they'd have told us to bear with them when we came in, I wouldn't have minded so much, but they didn't even acknowledge there was an issue. It's such a shame, as we'd been looking forward to coming for so long, but I wouldn't go back, especially for an evening meal. Edit: Looked at other reviews after posting mine on open table, and was surprised to see that the poor service is a frequent problem. So it's no wonder they didn't say anything when we came in- it clearly wasn't a one off!
