Monday night vibes! Impromptu, spectacularly fun, freestyle. Great to see some supremely talented young (and older....) people. Just jamming and having fun. Bar staff were on the ball and super friendly. Book a table online first I was suspicious we would need it, we did. Great atmosphere fun relaxed friendly. Loved it. Ps: Matts.... Can we have some 0% gin please 😁

I came back to Matt and Phreds the other night for the first time in about 10 years, and it did not disappoint. An absolute stalwart independent music venue putting on superb acts from across the country and from around the world. They host weekly open jam nights for a range of different styles of music too where local musicians can meet and play together making this bar an vital part of Manchester's musical community. On top of this they make a mean pizza and have a sophisticated bar serving nice beers and wines and an impressive cocktail selection. A great place for a date or night out for music lovers and jazz fans!

Listen up, you hep cats and flappers, because I’ve got the lowdown on a cool speakeasy that is absolutely the elephant's eyebrows. If you’re looking to beat the blues and find some real hoofin' happiness, lay your lamps on Matt and Phreds. It’s the real McCoy, and I ain’t talkin' maybe. The moment you slip through the door, the atmosphere hits you like a shot of bathtub gin. The joint is absolutely lousy with rhythm. The cats on the bandstand don’t just play the jazz; they cook it. The brass section was blowing some down-and-dirty licks that had the whole room completely ossified. The drummer was hitting the skins with such a wicked stride that even the flat tires in the corner were tapping their dogs. It was a kind of high-brow, hot-jazz syncopated rhythm that made you want to grab your sheba, hit the floor, and do the Charleston until your garters snap. Now, hold onto your fedoras, because here is the real kicker. Usually, a jazz joint serves you nothing but wet goods and cold comfort, but Matt and Phreds is throwing a real swanky party in the kitchen. They are churning out pie—and I don’t mean apples, mister. I’m talking about pizza that is pure perfection. Here’s the rub on the grub: The Crust: Crisp enough to snap, but chews like a dream. It’s got more bubbles than a glass of high-society champagne. The Sauce: Got a real swell tang to it. Not too sweet, just a little bit of a kick, like a cheeky wink from a dame across the bar. Some excellent mezze and accompanying wine. The Final Verdict Don't be a strike-me-dead and sit at home twiddling your thumbs. If you want to get your noodle toasted by some world-class jazz and stuff your face with the finest flatbread in the municipality, get your skates on and get down to Matt and Phreds. It is, without a doubt, the total cat’s pyjamas. Rating: Five out of five whistles. Go give 'em your dough!

I visited Matt & Phreds Jazz Club whilst in Manchester and was lucky to witness a live performance. The singer Maya Blandy and cohorts, Wez Caton & Nathan Stoker were insanely talented. A delightful experience to say the least. Would highly recommend the bar as the atmosphere and ambience was awesome!

Pizzas are ‘meh’ BUT as an aperitif for accompanying two drinks… they’re great! Can’t fault. The real gem here is the atmosphere, we saw honey bee jazz here, the music and the atmosphere was 🧑‍🍳💋
