I don't like this trend of automatically adding a service charge on the bill at bars. We only ordered a glass of wine, where exactly is the service apart from doing the bare minimum of just handing us what we ordered. If you are going to do this, please do what other bars offer which is the option of selecting 'no tip' when paying. I know most will say you can ask for this to be removed, but let's be honest, most people are far too polite to do this! Wine was okay, although i feel that prices reflect the location of the venue more than the quality of the wine. I can't comment on the food as we didn't have any.

I hadn’t visited Flawd before - a wine bar on New Islington marina - however, we heard there was a special tomato celebration. Tomatoes?! Hell yes. I have rarely left a wine bar feeling as nourished. The tomato fest was insane. Fresh, ripe and grown locally. The other fresh vegetable dishes knocked me for six too. Especially with the romesco sauce. Bang. So, coupled with an extensive (and in parts, a little challenging!) wine selection the whole the gig was spot on. I also learned that Flawd is owned by the good people of Higher Ground. Class. Go, but I can’t guarantee the tomatoes will be on. But, so what?

Flawd was my very first stop on my very first trip to Manchester and it was the perfect introduction to the city. The vibe is fantastic, the selection of natural wines is incredible and the menu of small plates is expertly curated and executed, and oh so delicious! Many of the ingredients are locally grown on a farm managed by the owners. A great experience overall. I will definitely be back!
