One cannot visit Madrid without trying churros dipped in hot chocolate. The place was absolutely packed. Very organised, after purchase at the counter, there's a line each for takeaway, indoor and outdoor seating. Fast turn over. Mass produced churros, so served cold, the hot chocolate wasn't suited to out palate, nevertheless a good experience.

Decent spot for a classic treat Chocolatería San Ginés is a historic gem in Madrid, perfect for trying traditional churros con chocolate. The atmosphere is charming and it’s open late, which is a plus. The churros themselves are fine but nothing special—crispy enough, though I’ve had better elsewhere. The thick hot chocolate pairs well, but the hype feels a bit exaggerated. Still, it’s a solid experience if you’re nearby and craving something sweet. Worth a stop, but don’t expect mind-blowing.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Absolute Gold Standard in Madrid! If you haven’t been to Chocolatería San Ginés, have you even been to Madrid? Established in 1894, this iconic spot is a masterclass in tradition. Yes, the lines snaking down the narrow Pasadizo de San Ginés can look intimidating, but don't let that deter you—the staff are seasoned pros, and the queue moves surprisingly fast. The payoff is pure bliss. We ordered the classic chocolate con churros, and it lived up to every bit of the hype. The churros were golden, perfectly crisp, and remarkably light, while the chocolate was incredibly rich, thick, and velvety—ideal for dunking. We also tried the porras (the thicker, fluffier cousins to the churro), which were a delightful, airy alternative. The atmosphere inside is charmingly nostalgic, with its green wood paneling and white marble tables. It’s open 24/7, so whether you’re starting your morning early or ending a late-night tapas crawl, it’s always the right time. It is a quintessential Madrid experience that is 100% worth the wait. A must-see and a must-taste! Vacation mode, I’m not going to complain about anything, ppl stand on line, but there are 2 shops, just open your eyes and go to the one without lines.. lol.

Honestly, it is just alright. The hot chocolate was rich and paired well with the churros but nothing special. We tried a french toast as well but it was really oily, served cold and not a good experience both taste and texture wise. Overall, hype is due to the places legacy and not the food itself. Not horrible but definitely overrated.

Had to look forward to this place as the churos and chocolate sounded so good. Our party of eight was extremely disappointed not only in the churros which lacked flavor and sugar ( they definitely could have used powdered sugar on top) but also in the chocolate which was not sweet at all. If you choose to eat here, (My advice would be to find a different location) - definitely do not sit inside It is a sauna bath. For a place that I know has to be making a lot of money, a few ceiling fans inside would definitely have made the experience more pleasant.
