The Howard Carter House is the meticulously restored mud-brick home of the famous British archaeologist who discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922. Located on the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor, it now operates as a museum offering an intimate glimpse into his life and work. Designed and built by Carter in 1910, it served as his base of operations during his search and the decade-long excavation of Tutankhamun's treasures. The domed structure is surrounded by lush foliage and features an adjacent café to relax after touring.

A Time Capsule of the Man Who Unlocked the Valley of the Kings Carter House Museum, located near the Valley of the Kings, is the restored home of Howard Carter — the archaeologist who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. The house is preserved as a historical time capsule, offering a rare glimpse into the daily life, tools, and working environment of one of archaeology’s most iconic figures. Inside, visitors find Carter’s study, his drawing room, original furniture, photographs, letters, and replicas of the tools used during the excavation. The atmosphere is intimate and surprisingly personal — as if Carter has just stepped out for a moment. The museum also includes a full‑scale replica of Tutankhamun’s burial chamber, allowing visitors to experience the discovery as Carter saw it. It is one of the most evocative and emotionally resonant museums in Luxor.

The Howard Carter house was definitely worth visiting. The artwork alone is amazing. There is an excellent film presented there that gives an in depth review of the events leading up to the discover of King Tuts tomb. The restaurant has some of the best food we ate in Egypt. This site is a must-see in Egypt!

Really worth a visit, the house was much bigger than I thought and so interesting to see how he lived for 17 years. There is a replica of Tutankhamun's tomb at the back of the house, you can walk around the sarcophagus which you cant do in the real tomb.

A well set up exhibition. We believe it is a reconstruction but well worth a visit. We were dropped by Taxi in the car park. The tickets are bought in a separate building along the street. Worth buying in advance or going as part of a tour.
