Booked a room at Sunset Tower Hotel for my mom while she was visiting. It’s undeniably charming. The historic details are beautiful, the property has real character, and the staff was consistently kind and welcoming. That said, it’s worth knowing what you’re signing up for. This is a genuinely old historic property, and that comes with tradeoffs. The rooms are very small, noticeably smaller than a typical modern luxury hotel room. The first room we were given overlooked a rooftop with what seemed to be heavy mechanical equipment (likely kitchen or building systems), and it was extremely loud. Because the original windows aren’t sound insulated, the noise came straight into the room. We asked to switch, and the second room was quieter in that regard but even smaller and had a lingering cigarette smell. At that point, we didn’t feel like going through another room change, so we stayed. That room faced Sunset Boulevard, which meant traffic and nightlife noise still came through pretty clearly because of the windows. The best way I’d describe Sunset Tower is that it feels a bit like staying in a museum, in both the good and challenging ways. If you’re drawn to old Hollywood charm, history, and character, you may absolutely love it. If you’re expecting modern luxury in the sense of spacious rooms, quiet comfort, and contemporary amenities, this probably isn’t the right fit.
Always beyond perfect. Regardless of price, one of the best hotels in the country in my opinion. The hotel itself, the rooms, the style, the service, the amenities, the bars and restaurants, and the overall vibe are difficult to describe without experiencing it firsthand. To say that Ness (the Guest Experience Manager) is a delight to deal with is a vast understatement. He is unbelievably accommodating and truly concerned about your experience. And his communication protocol before you even arrive is on another level. Barbara (Food & Beverage Manager) is impossible to walk past without stopping (even if you're not dining!) to chat with because she's so delightful. And if you are wanting a table, her attention to detail and what you may need are exemplary. The entire staff, from the valet area, to security, to the front desk, to housekeeping, to the waiters, are all the finest I've ever seen, and the consistency never wavers. I never want to leave when I'm there...
The Chateau was full due to the Grammys, so we checked in across the street—what a lucky find! Very personable yet stylish, with a great balance of renovation and preservation. Excellent mixology, and an even better breakfast (served until 11). Valet parking was seamless, and the pool was perfect. We’ll definitely be back ASAP.
Best hotel stay I have had in a while. The staff were all very kind and helpful. The rooms were fantastic with lots of well-thought out little details.
One of my passions is seeking out historic, character-rich five-star hotels and savoring every moment of the experience. After a recent visit to Los Angeles, Sunset Tower Hotel has unexpectedly risen to the very top of my list of favorite accommodations in the country. I’ll do my best to keep this review brief, though I could easily write an essay about my wonderful experience. The service and team are truly exceptional—delivering nothing short of Forbes Five-Star caliber hospitality. I was greeted by name by nearly every team member I encountered; my preferences (coffee, cocktail order) were remembered; and, above all, I was made to feel genuinely valued. I wish I had noted everyone’s name, as each person made a lasting impression, but Carlos from in-room dining and John from bell services went especially out of their way to make me feel at home. I can’t emphasize enough that the entire team at the property is truly top-notch—among the very best in the industry. The building itself is impeccably maintained. It offers no shortage of historic charm and quirks while seamlessly incorporating modern amenities—without compromise. I highly recommend booking a suite. Mine was special, featuring unparalleled views down Sunset Boulevard through multiple floor-to-ceiling antique windows. The pool is wonderful—admittedly not “resort-style” in the traditional sense—but if you have an appreciation for old-world Hollywood, you’ll love it. Tower Bar is iconic and absolutely beautiful, and the food was nothing short of excellent. At check-in, we arrived to a pristine room, and housekeeping maintained it impeccably throughout both refresh and turndown service. The overall value was great considering the exceptional level of the guest experience, and the location is unbeatable. I mentioned at the outset of this review that seeking out historic luxury hotels is a passion of mine. While I always appreciate the opportunity to experience new properties, it’s hard to imagine staying anywhere else in Los Angeles—the very idea of choosing a hotel other than Sunset Tower Hotel feels like a compromise. Thanks to the exceptional team, I’ve found my forever home away from home in LA. Note: Book a suite—it’s well worth it. The hotel is ideal for couples and solo travelers and less suited to families. While Google may categorize Sunset Tower Hotel as a four-star property, that classification doesn’t do it justice—my experience here surpassed several Forbes Five-Star stays.
