IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the second floor. The price for the room was $$$$$$$. With this in mind, we were hoping for a nice, quiet room with a view of the ocean. NO. Did not happen. YOU NEED TO KNOW that your room may be right next to the lobby lounge outdoor deck and there is music and loud talking while they are open. There are also musicians and others that are right outside of your window (technically on the public beach) that are singing, playing the trumpet, keyboards and VERY LOUD all the time. The room also has a public walkway right under the window, so you are going to hear the public (at least when we were there very loudly) and it is NOT quiet...it's very loud. MY SUGGESTION TO SHUTTERS: Invest in double/triple pane windows (something similar to what Bellagio has in Las Vegas) so you can't hear all of this noise. We also had our next door neighbors that decided to throw a VERY LOUD PARTY from 2 - 3 am (yes, I called security and they quieted down after a while). I was actually shocked they didn't get kicked out because this kind of behavior should not be tolerated. The good news is that the Guest Relations Manager (Beatrice) did help out finding a comparable room right next door to their sister property (Casa Del Mar)...so we moved rooms the next day. I feel like Shutters is a good place - but they really need to invest in thicker pane windows knowing that the public is going to interfere with the quiet that you are paying for. It's all a matter of what you are looking for - and what to know before.
Absolutely our favorite vacation spot! We so enjoyed our stay at Shutters on the Beach. It is top notch. All of the staff is courteous and friendly. They will remember who you are and they take very good care of you. The rooms are beautiful, very clean and spacious. A big thank you to Jonathan the concierge who was full of knowledge and so very helpful. Mark the bellman was also very helpful. If you are looking for somewhere to go in the Santa Monica area be sure to visit Shutters on the Beach and their restaurants and bars. You will not be disappointed.
Nice enough hotel but CANNOT get over that the fridge in the room was zip tied. We had some food we wanted to refrigerate and it could not have been more bizarre that the fridge was locked. We had to call room service who basically told us it's to keep track of the mini bar but we could cut it if we needed to? At a 5 star hotel especially (but tbh this would never happen at a Hyatt) this felt so unnecessary and that is ultimately the thing that has stuck with us the most from our stay. Poolside service was slowwww and room is a little dated, but has that Cape Cod chic thing going.
Stopped in for cocktails at One Pico after showing beachfront properties along Ocean Avenue. The setting at Shutters is simply unbeatable — watching the sunset over the Pacific while discussing the Santa Monica market with clients is an experience I genuinely look forward to. The bar program is thoughtful and the staff is warm and attentive. For anyone considering the beach cities, Shutters gives a perfect sense of the lifestyle they'd be buying into.
My son and I stayed for several days while attending USC graduation ceremonies. Shutters is exceptional in every sense of the word. From arrival to departure and everything in between, Shutters' staff made sure you were catered to. The facilities are also first rate and you simply can't beat the location if it's a SoCal beach vacation that you are looking for.
