An awesome hostel to stay and party at. The roof top pool bar and restaurant is a great way to start any night in LA. Great opportunity to meet other travellers. Rooms are very clean, large, among the best for the number of beds. Remember to book online, I've walked up a few times and can't get a bed
I stayed at Freehand Los Angeles during a conference trip. At check in, I provided my credit card for what I understood to be the standard security deposit. However, a much larger amount was authorized on my card without a clear explanation beforehand. Since my room had already been paid for through my university, this came as a surprise and caused unnecessary stress. Although the issue was eventually resolved after communication between the hotel and my university, the funds remained on hold for about three days. Better communication regarding payment authorizations would have prevented this situation. In addition, the room had a noticeable urine-like odor when I arrived, which made the room feel less clean than expected. Other than these issues, I did not experience any major problems during my stay. The location was convenient, and the rest of my visit was smooth. I hope management can improve transparency regarding payment holds and maintain higher housekeeping standards for future guests.
We got the rooms on a 50% off deal. Thank god because if we didn’t, over $150 for these rooms is just a disgrace. I’ve see motel rooms better than this for half the price. The big this was the added fees when you walk through the door. Over $300+ in fees when checking in. Even though one gets refunded that is absolutely ridiculous. Rooftop is always in maintenance so it was never open when we were there so that took away a massive part of going in the first place. Apparently this happened to other a lot prior Besides all of that. Location is great. Everything you need if ur on a budget is right here, train/bus can take you anywhere if you dont have a car. CVS, whole food, Dunkin’s right on the corner etc so that is all great. But it can be noisy but your DTLA so that is to be expected. there are much better hotels in the area. would not recommend staying here
Arrived an hour early for check in and staff was very nice, walked me through all the amenities before showing me the way to my room. Booked a bed in a quad room (roommates!) for the experience. I was the first to arrive, upon entering there was a very musty smell. The room was very small, with the 2 bunk beds and 4 lockers making up for the entirety of the space. For the love of life I couldn't find an AC switch in the room or out in the hallway. All in all, tho dated, the bed, sheets, pillow, bathroom and shower were all very clean. Ended up heading back to the lobby / bar area to work. This area is nicely AC'd and has MANY outlets for charging, even under and at the end of the sofa sections. There's plenty of working space in this area and I believe they serve drinks in the afternoon and food in the evening and following morning. The location of the hotel is pretty good, everything is in walking distance, wholefoods, dunkin, 7th st station. I even walked from little tokyo (20min) after an event during the evening and walked to Union Station (30min) the following morning. I did not notice any noise from the busy LA weekend nightlife that other travelers mentioned (room 217). Took a glance at the pool party they have on the roof during evening hours and it's well organized and has a nice vibe. One thing to note, tho there are 3 elevators they're slow and often packed. Stairs if you can.
Stayed here for three nights and loved it! The area is a little sketch, but it’s DTLA. Inside the hotel felt super secure and it is walkable to lots of touristy sights. Room was clean and the hotel itself is so cute. The Golden Gopher across the street is a perfect spot for a nightcap. I wish the pool was open a little later but otherwise 10/10 stay.
