The head sushi chef here was incredibly friendly. Even though we’re foreigners and couldn’t speak the local language, we still had a great interaction with him. They have a great selection of premium dishes. Every item is beautifully presented in small portions, and most of them tasted quite delicious. There were just a few dishes that might be a little challenging for foreign palates to get used to. Overall the food was lovely, but we had an awkward moment at the end of our meal. We had already paid the bill and were ready to leave, when a staff member came after us and asked us to go back and pay again. Luckily we kept our receipt, so we could easily show that we had already settled our payment. We were a little disappointed that there was no sincere apology from him afterward, only a standard “please come back again”. It sadly took away from what would have otherwise been a perfect evening. I would easily overlook this at a casual, mid-range restaurant. However, this is clearly a high-end and pricey establishment. For the cost we paid, we do hope the service can be as polished and thoughtful as the food. It would be nice if they could pay more attention to service details, so a great dining experience doesn’t get spoiled at the last minute.
Had an amazing time today! The atmosphere was spot on, and the food was incredibly delicious. 🤤 Watching the chef work with such passion and skill was a highlight—every bite was so fresh. Definitely worth the price and a must-try for anyone in Kyoto. Can’t wait to come back!
Warning: this is NOT the Michelin 1 star shop by the same name in Gion. This shop is located near JR Kyoto. FOOD 3 Ordered the ¥18,000 course for two. The appetizers, small dishes, and sushi itself were decent, but not spectacular. Edomae style served with warm rice. Soup portion was so small, about 100ml or so. Sake is overpriced per 180ml carafe. SERVICE 2 Sushi chefs were professional, but the service staff were so clumsy サービススタッフは本当にどんくさい and not professional. After the server delivered my appetizer (1st photo), the head chef noticed that it only had one shell instead of two like everyone else. Before I could start eating, he quickly grabbed my plate, apologized, and sent it back to the kitchen to add one more shell. The servers didn’t notice this mistake. They also spilled sake and haphazardly removed dishes and misplaced sake cups clumsily. They need to improve. ATMOSPHERE 2 When we walked in, we heard loud voices coming from the private room like people were yelling at each other. The noise was unsettling, and I wondered what kind of clientele were they entertaining? Gangsters and troublemakers? Inappropriate behavior. Also, the guests were a much younger crowd which surprised me. OVERALL 2 My total bill was much more than I expected. Poor cost performance for me. The only saving grace is that we met a lovely, sweet couple from Barcelona on their honeymoon. They were fun to talk to.
We had a fantastic time with the 90 minute dinner service here! The atmosphere and staff are great, and the food is even better. Very nice experience, would recommend! I made a reservation through Tabelog in advance.
Very good food and nice chef! Just that it takes ages to get the water and I have asked three times for water. Apart from that, Everything is amazing
