I walked from Gion to this museum and it is a very pleasant street walk for early morning. The museum is very nice. I enjoyed all the beautiful exhibitions. I recommend to walk to the atrium where a place is art itself. Also the back side of the huge glass windows and sit a bit to see the garden. Very peaceful and inspiring museum! The museum store has many artistic gift items which I enjoyed very much just by looking at these them.

Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art offers a well-considered balance between history and contemporary design. The renovated building preserves its original architectural character while integrating modern elements in a way that feels natural rather than intrusive. The open entrance and underground spaces create a smooth flow that makes the museum easy to navigate. Exhibitions vary depending on the season, but the layout allows visitors to move at a comfortable pace without feeling crowded. The atmosphere is calm and well organized, making it suitable even for those who are not frequent museum visitors. Natural light and clean sightlines contribute to a relaxed viewing experience. Overall, the museum functions not only as an exhibition space but also as a public cultural facility. It is a place where architecture, exhibitions, and the surrounding environment are thoughtfully connected, making it a solid and accessible stop in Kyoto.

A vibrant explosion of contemporary art in historic Kyoto The "Mononoke Kyoto" exhibition by Takashi Murakami is an absolute sensory overload in the best way possible. From the massive, colorful murals filled with intricate details to the iconic golden sculptures, the scale of the work is breathtaking. Seeing Murakami’s signature characters reimagined through the lens of Kyoto’s folklore and "Mononoke" themes is a unique treat. The blend of pop culture and traditional motifs is masterfully executed, making it a must-visit for any art lover.

Nice building but mainly for paid exhibition. Quiet long queue during the day on week. The collection(free exhibition) is available only certain period times. They have 100 yen coin locker you can get the coin back.
