This is a cozy little restaurant with a simple but delicious concept. They serve one main dish: a spicy chicken curry that comes in three different portion sizes. You can also add pickled side dishes that complement the flavors perfectly. The curry is very spicy—definitely for those who love some heat—but it’s packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. A charming spot with a unique, straightforward menu that does one thing really well!
Seriously, only go to Spice Chamber if you love very spicy food. The house curry is delicious and worthy of the hype, but very hot. The menu comprises of that one curry in 3 sizes plus pickles or raita as a side. The team is absolutely lovely, advising on suitable drinks and sides in a welcoming and thoughtful manner. We arrived shortly after opening at 11:30 and had no wait for a table. By 12:00 every seat was occupied and 4 people were waiting outside.
Worth the Michelin recommendation! 😍 Curry rice was great (from their portion, to taste and spiciness) so it’s definitely a yes for me and most definitely for Kyoto-goers out here. I got to say they even made the effort to take their service to the next level by incorporating english menu and making sure their guests feel at home 🥰
Came here by luck and loved it. Service was great. Extremely hospitable in a casual and familiar way. Food was amazing. Always a great sign in my book if there is a menu with limited options. Typically shows a dedication for quality over quantity. Proved 100% true in this case. Don’t come if you’re s picky eater though. When we were there, it was one curry (Keema) available that could be slightly altered (with or without Joghurt, cheese added, …) and was significantly spicy.
The whole establishment can seat around 8 in the back and 4 in the front with the open kitchen. Only one dish is served in 3 sizes. I'd say if you want to get a sufficient experience and want to leave space for other yums then the small is perfect for that. The regular size is appropriate otherwise. Eclectic decor with the menu available on a chalkboard, cash only, and a bell to ring when you're done. The curry is spicy but not too much to handle. It's got depth to its flavor! We bought the curry pack to-go and paid 80Y for the ice bag. Excited to share the flavor with friends when I get back home!
