If you’re looking for the best chili pan mee in KL, this is the place to go. The noodles have a really nice springy texture and pair perfectly with the fragrant fried chili with is super addictive and full of flavor. What makes this place even more special is that the boss is actually one of the founders of chili pan mee in Malaysia, so you know the taste is authentic and well perfected over the years. It’s a small, humble shop, nothing fancy, but the food speaks for itself. Don’t overlook the vegetable soup — it may seem simple, but it’s honestly the soul of the whole bowl and ties everything together.
Came here to try their chilli pan mee after seeing some posts online saying it’s one of the best in the KL area. The restaurant environment felt a bit worn out and slightly dirty, but still acceptable for me. They only have two options for pan mee, either soup or dry, along with some side dishes. We ordered the dry pan mee with a bowl of beancurd. There’s a huge jar of their signature dry chilli on every table, so you can add as much as you like. The dry chilli was really fragrant and gave a strong kick to the noodles. The noodles came with a generous topping of minced meat and fried ikan bilis. However, the texture was a bit too soft and slightly overcooked for my liking, as I prefer a more springy texture. Overall, it was pretty good, but I don’t think it’s worth the price at RM12.
I ordered dry ban Mian then add the chili , the dumplings in soup taste great as well as the bean curds in soup too. The chili was awesome too. Only thing you have to tahan (endure ) the hot environment as only fans in the shop. The senior owner can speak fluent English too. Thumb up
Went to the very first Kin Kin panmee store for a real taste of authenticity! This store brings you a walk down memory lane where the insides are lil bit stuffy and bears signs of classic eatery shops back in the 20th century. Got a seat right away upon arrival, food took awhile but consider it smooth seeing how the store was packed during lunch hours on a working day. Noodles are soft, chewy (not the bouncy type) and just the right thickness for me. Highlight was the bucket of chilli of course! The bucket of chilli packed in this bucket previously used for honey is simply nostalgic. Added one spoon for good measure - the spice doesn't kick up until later so make sure to add more gradually instead of slapping the bowl with spoons after spoons of chilli right away. Portion is just nice to steer clear of food coma, not too hefty and toppings not too overwhelming (which satisfies your cravings yet pulls you back for more). The best size is 1.5 bowl (as proclaimed and testified by the lot of us during this visit). Coupled with a clear bowl of egg drop soup and mani vegetables? Definitely a good bowl for a hearty day. Could do more with an extra egg (for me who likes it creamy anyway). Already craving for another bowl upon leaving the place. Especially so for RM12 a bowl in all its originality.
Real Comment: Came here for lunch and there were a lot of customers, but luckily there was still an empty seat for me. I tried the Dry Chili Pan Mee, which is known as the local specialty in this area. It tastes quite good after mixing in the dry chili. However, I suggest not adding too much if you can’t handle spicy food. It doesn’t feel too spicy at first, but after a while you may feel the heat in your stomach. When you go to the toilet, you can really feel the chili burning you. I put about 2½ spoonfuls and it was already more than enough. If you just want to try the flavor, I think less than 2 spoonfuls is better. Most of the workers are foreigners, except for the owner. The menu doesn’t offer many choices as they mainly sell Pan Mee noodles, and the drinks are just average. The hygiene is not very good, probably because it’s a very old shop, but overall it’s still okay if you just want a simple meal.
