The Superstay.io team loves coming to Alto 234 for sunsets, dinner, drinks, and just a good vibe. Can highly recommend the food and the great service. If you're coming in winter, make sure to dress warmly and remember your sunglasses. You can't go wrong with this place. Very romantic too!

My wife and I enjoy trying new places, experiences, and different foods together. Because we paid R390 per person just to access Alto 234 on the rooftop of The Leonardo, our expectations were understandably quite high. This review is based purely on our personal experience. I always write reviews to offer constructive feedback and help businesses improve, as that’s my field of work. Weather Unfortunately, the weather on the day wasn’t great. I would strongly recommend booking on a clear day to fully enjoy the sunset and views. On a cloudy day, the visuals are very limited, which affects the overall experience. Drinks & Atmosphere The R390 entry includes a glass of champagne, which is a nice touch for celebrations. At the time, my wife was pregnant, and the only non-alcoholic options offered were grape juice or Appletiser. I would suggest adding a non-alcoholic champagne option. I’m a beer drinker and noticed that the only beer on tap was Heineken. While there were bottled options (including Bomb Squad), I think having a South African beer or local craft beer on tap would be a great improvement. My wife ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail called the Green House Effect, which I tasted and really enjoyed. When we arrived, the atmosphere felt quite quiet and flat. I asked the waiter if background music could be played, which they immediately did. Music is definitely a must here. Given the price point, having live music would elevate the experience even more. Food Alto 234 operates as a tapas bar, which I usually love—small bites paired with great views. We ordered the pulled beef taco, pork belly bao bun, and Wagyu beef slider. Each dish only comes as a single item per plate, so we ordered two of each. The portions were actually quite large for tapas—almost too filling. I’d suggest smaller portions with two items per plate to encourage sharing. The food itself was tasty. However, seeing the kitchen area and noticing a microwave being used gave the impression that food might be reheated. At these prices, that perception is off-putting. I would rather skip food altogether than pay premium prices for something that appears microwaved. Closing off the kitchen area could help avoid this impression. Service The service was excellent from start to finish. I’d rate it an 8/10—well done to the team. Overall Overall, I’d rate our experience a 6/10. It feels like a venue designed more for a once-off, bucket-list experience rather than repeat visits. That said, there is a lot of potential, and I believe it could easily become a place that fills every table consistently. I’d be open to trying it again on a clearer day.

A literal mount olympus with view only deserving for those aspiring for a test of divinity... For once you can look down upon the earth and enjoy the marvellous work of the mighty Mzansi workmanship. Loved it!!! The food, the smiling service and the atmosphere!!! The absolute depiction of perfection!

The views over the entirety of JHB make this place totally worth the entrance fee. Service is stellar no matter if it's raining or sunny! Would highly recommend it a business after work drinks location.

Beautiful views, delicious canapés and great service. Only issue is that there is no shade midday! Way too hot to sit at any of the lovely loungers. Sure a tented canopy of some sort can be installed without obstructing the view.
