A "Michelin" Moment in the Heart of the Market Azura | Jerusalem, Israel I visited Azura back in November 2016, and even after years of traveling and dining at some of the world’s top restaurants, this remains one of the most memorable meals I’ve ever had. I actually met a friendly couple on a day excursion who invited me to grab dinner with them here, and it turned out to be the highlight of the trip. The Experience: The Atmosphere: You just can’t beat the energy of the market. Tucked away in the Iraqi section of Mahane Yehuda, Azura has this authentic, old-school feel that sets the stage perfectly. The Service: The staff was amazing—attentive and welcoming, making us feel right at home despite how busy the place was. The Dish: I ordered the signature "Azura" (the eggplant stuffed with ground beef and pine nuts). I can still clearly remember the fragrance of the cinnamon-scented sauce hitting the table. That first bite was incredible—honestly, it was as good as any "Michelin moment" I’ve had in fine dining rooms across Europe. The Verdict: This isn't just a meal; it's a memory. If you find yourself in Jerusalem, this dish is an absolute must-try. It’s the kind of food that stays with you long after you’ve left the market. Fine Dining Auditor

Amazing place. Kosher Oxtails, I always wanted to try this dish. In America I never found any place that served it. In Israel in the Shuk I finally tried this. Absolutely delicious. Thank you. Great service.

Azura has a cozy atmosphere and the food tastes homemade. Most of the food is already cooked so the wait time is minimal. The food is very traditional and authentic to the Iraqi Kurdish cuisine. The Azura was tasty and had a combination of flavors. It consisted of an eggplant, ground meat, pine nuts and cinnamon. The portion was a bit small and I was not a huge fan of the cinnamon but overall it had a great texture. The Kubbe in the soup was delicious and probably my favorite thing I tasted. Keep in mind that this soup is a bit sour since it is made with lemon. For those that like something spicy ask for their schug, it’s great! Also the staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. (They also have English menus)

A great authentic local restaurant. Amazing dishes with original and unique combination of ingredients. If you want to feel and taste and original Jerusalem flavour, so this is a must visit place to eat. Great for lunch and will recommend to book in advance, as the place is overloaded in rush hour. Enjoy 🙂

Why 5 stars? The Food. Great taste, good portions, relaxed family atmosphere. Everything about this place is right. Family run, super busy, classic dishes. Price is on the high side, but the value is there. Shimon Peres, former President and Prime minister of Israel used to hang around this place. Not a bad recommendation!
