By far the best Kebap in all of Istanbul. The food is AMAZING! They have a great variety, and if you're having trouble choosing you can do half and half dishes. If you're a solo traveler or want an interactive experience I recommend sitting by the grill and hanging out with the chef. He was so much fun! I tried the Sebzeli Acılı Kebap Çöp Şİş Patlıcan Közde Van Cacık Seriously the best food I've tried in Istanbul
If you want the real soul of Istanbul’s food scene, Zübeyir Ocakbaşı in Taksim is a must. I sat right at the grill-side table, and the vibe of the live cooking is unbeatable—watching the masters work over the coals makes the meal taste even better. The quality of the food is top-tier. The meat is incredibly fresh and seasoned perfectly. I ordered the Kebab and the Lamb Shish Cubes; both were melt-in-your-mouth tender with that perfect smoky char you can only get from a traditional pit. Pro-tip for an extra flavor kick: The cook suggested a genius move—ask for grape molasses (pekmez) to put on the onion mix. Mixing that sweet richness with the sharp onions is a game-changer and pairs perfectly with the savory lamb. The atmosphere, the freshness, and the expert staff make this one of the best dining experiences in the city. Don't skip it!
We had a great experience at this authentic grill restaurant. The place was busy and full of life, which always feels like a good sign. The staff were very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of throughout. The food was excellent - very well prepared, with high-quality meat and generous portions, all at a fair price. We were a group of four and tried different kebab dishes, and everything tasted great. Personally, I can highly recommend the special lamb chops - they were a real highlight! Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for authentic grilled food.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Zübeyir Ocakbaşı – Taksim, Istanbul My wife wanted to bring me here because it’s a restaurant she’s been to many times before. This was my first visit — and honestly, it ended up being the best meal we’ve had in Istanbul this entire week. We’ve had a lot of disappointing food on this trip, to be completely honest, but Zübeyir Ocakbaşı was outstanding. The food was absolutely phenomenal — some of the best grilled meat I’ve ever had, anywhere. Everything was cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and clearly done by people who take pride in what they do. Beyond the food, the service and atmosphere were flawless. Professional, attentive without hovering, and confident in a way that immediately makes you feel you’re in the right place. It couldn’t have been better. One thing worth mentioning: to get there, you leave the main shopping street near Taksim Square and walk about two blocks off the main drag. Those two blocks are packed with tourist-trap restaurants — guys standing outside yelling at you to come in, pushing overpriced and mediocre food. This place? No begging. No yelling. In fact, the very first thing we were asked when we walked in was: “Do you have a reservation?” That’s always a good sign — especially at an odd hour in the middle of the week, between meal times. This is exactly the kind of restaurant we look for when traveling: confident, busy, authentic, and focused on quality rather than chasing tourists. Highly, highly recommended. If you’re in Istanbul and anywhere near Taksim, this is a can’t-miss spot.
A Fabulous place with heart and soul!! Plenty of locals mixed in the tourists. The guys are doing a great job. Authentic and uncompromising food, i did go over the top of mains (Speacial Lamb chops and kebab with the sheperd’s salad as “big side”). But it was very good. Many thanks!!
