This was quite an experience, having tasty rice rolls for breakfast and sitting among the locals in this tiny little Michelin spot. Definitely one of the culinary highlights of my trip to Hanoi! ✨ The queue was quite long but the staff works efficiently and the wait wasn't that long! I was seated in no time and my food was served within minutes. 10/10 would come back again! 🔥🔝
To eat at this place, if you are a foreigner or from another city in Vietnam, you’ll need a bit of patience. The restaurant is small and very busy, so if you come alone, the staff will often ask whether you’re okay sharing a table with strangers. They serve strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. This means they won’t ask for your order if you arrive later—you’ll need to wait until the customers who came before you have been served. Only then will the staff come to your table to take your order. During peak hours, the waiting time is usually around 15 minutes. If you want to order more food while eating, you can simply call the staff to order—no need to wait for anyone. The steamed rice rolls with minced pork can taste a bit bland if eaten on their own, but they are perfectly balanced when dipped in the sauce. You can squeeze a bit of kumquat juice (available on the table) into the sauce and add a few slices of fresh chili—it’s just right that way. The side dish includes pork sausage (chả mỡ). I’m personally not a fan of this type, but the restaurant’s version is surprisingly good. The egg-filled rice rolls are excellent if you order them “runny, (trứng chảy) meaning the yolk is still flowing rather than fully steamed. Many people also praise the Chinese sausage served on the side, but I haven’t tried it yet—maybe next time. Because the place is small and customers come and go constantly, the staff usually only have time to wipe the tables, not clean underneath them. So if you notice some used tissues on the floor under the table, you’ll just have to live with it 😉 Right next to the rice-roll-making station, there is a small tea table. If you want iced tea, you can order it from the restaurant staff and pay them directly. I didn’t originally plan to order iced tea, but after eating dishes with fish sauce and crispy fried shallots, you’ll definitely need it to clear the aftertaste 😄
Bánh cuốn Bà Xuân is a Michelin awarded street food spot that genuinely earns the hype. When you walk up, you’ll likely see a small queue and steam pouring from the baskets, but don’t worry, it moves fast and is absolutely worth the wait. Inside, you’ll find silky, chewy rice pancakes steamed to order and stuffed with pork and mushroom. You can add a soft egg for more of a breakfast feel, which we tried, but the original still wins. The lady working the steamer is a machine, keeping every sheet perfectly consistent while turning out plates nonstop. It’s amazing to watch. Space is tight, so be ready to share tables, and once you’re seated you can easily order extra portions. This place deserves to be busy. A must visit for anyone who loves proper Hanoi street food.
It's alright, the food is actually delicious! The springy rice noodle rolls and crunchy onions on top. I liked the egg roll more than the pork one. What brings this place down is the service. It just had a bad vibe, and as someone who really really enjoys the general vibe of Hanoi, it makes me sad. They even have a cute dog walking around the restaurant which I liked. This place is probably worth one visit to try it, but I'd likely not come back in it's current state. If you are a solo or duo traveler group be prepared to share the table with other groups, the place is small so they put people at the same table to save space and get more people fed, can be fun. If you get there right when they open you can get a seat fast and order quick, get the Chinese sausage to pair with your rolls, it's delicious. Not bad, but Hanoi has a lot more to offer, price is reasonable
06.03.2026 Insta: torbo_food_adventure Just arrived with my sleeper Bus back in Hanoi and couldn’t cheek in to my hotel yet. So I was craving some nice, light breakfast and found this place. The restaurant was pretty full especially for 7am, however most were locals who probably wanted to eat something before they start their day. At the front of the restaurant you can see a lady making fresh Banh Cuon. I wasn’t super hungry so I just got one Banh cuon. Taste was amazing, probably one of the best Banh Cuon I had in Vietnam. Would definitely return. :)
