I really liked this museum that helps give a glance of how people lived in the cave houses. There are houses or rooms that served to keep some animals indoor and help heat the small house where a family lived. There are also other rooms for Flamenco dancing and entertainment, blacksmith, basket weaving, loom for cloth making among other functions. Gypsies "Gitanos" lived here. There has been a large Gypsy community that has lived in this area for centuries. There is a small bar where you can but refreshments, water and beer here. There are restrooms for men and women. If you get a chance it's worth going to see this. There are incredible views of the Alhambra from across the valley. It is only €5 per person to enter. The #34 Small red city bus vans will take you all the way up to base of the hill where you will then have to walk up a pathway to get to the museum. I really did enjoy it. The museum is open till 8pm. Not sure if the hours change during the year. There are nice little neighborhoods close by with restaurants etc. Really nice area with nice views.
Was very curioua about this museum and it didn't disappoint. It is a nice area above Granada, on the hills where are all the famous flamenco bars. It gets you thorought the flamenco history, every house presents the old way of living, in houses digges into the mountain by men. They had stables, workshops, livable spaces with kitchen and others. It is really nice to find out about this culture history, see how they lived. Totally worth the money for the ticket.
The Museo Cuevas del Sacromonte in Granada was a wonderful visit! The museum offers a fascinating look into the traditional cave homes, even showcasing authentic tools, furniture, and displays that bring the history to life. You can walk around freely and spend as much time as you want in the caves. I would say you only need 30-45 minutes for the visit. If you’re in Granada, this museum is totally worth the stop!
A series of small caves where people lived. Each cave with it's purpose: forge, stable, living etc. 11 caves in total. They were small and not as informative as they could be. Also, difficult to read the boards with information without being in the way of others in the cramped caves. Could do with audio guides to make it more immersive. Beautiful views of Alhambra and the valley.
Very interesting and informative visit to these caves which have been repurposed as a museum honouring the people and traditions of the area. Amazing views if Alhambra as well! Sacromonte is a lovely quiet town to wander around after your visit. It's quite a long steep climb up so we got a taxi up from the centre which cost 5 euros and then walked back down into the centre along the Darro river
