A state-of-the-art museum housing the original masterpieces removed from the cathedral, including Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise.
- Good to know
- Included in the main Duomo pass; highly interactive and spacious.

Highly recommended you visit this museum when you visit the Duomo cathedral. Visiting this museum is included in the past tickets. There were so many amazing sculptures and historical renderings of the Duomo through the past 600 years. They have a very nice bathroom inside this museum as well. It is very close to the Domo cathedral and very easy to access.
Highly recommend visiting the museum. You can see the original statues on the cathedral before medici renovated it, and compare the difference in style before and after the renaissance. Very interesting! The interior was quite neat and spacious. Gates of paradise was astounding to see too. Also make sure to look at donetello’s david and michelagelo’s deposition. I loved the miniature model of the duomo.
The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence is a must-visit! It brilliantly showcases original masterpieces by Donatello and Michelangelo in a spacious, modern setting. The breathtaking view of the Cathedral from the terrace is the perfect bonus. An absolute highlight of Tuscany!
A museum that celebrates all of the architects and artisans who made the Duomo in Florence! Don’t miss the beautiful Piete by Michelangelo (with Michelangelo’s face as that of Nicodemus) and the beautiful and fragile Mary Magdellen by Donatello. The glorious Baptistry doors are on the main space and mockups of the Duomo, Cupola, and various proposals for the marble decor are throughout. The film alternates between Italian and English. I learned so much about this amazing space.
If there is one museum to visit in Florence, it is this. And just for context I’m a student here and I’ve visited the Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, Accademia, Opficio Pietre Dure and of course many of the churches. But this museum just blew my mind. Since Florence is most well known for its iconic Cathedral - the Duomo, this is the museum that helps you appreciate that and gives you a lot of history about Florence and its artists and architects. It’s a must go.
