Located in a historic cellar beneath Palazzo Antinori, this is the gold standard for Bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled over real charcoal with a perfectly charred crust.

Florentine Steak Dinner in a Beautiful Historic Setting We had a wonderful dinner at Buca Lapi and it ended up being one of our favourite dining experiences in Florence. We ordered the Bistecca alla Fiorentina with sautéed spinach, paired with a lovely Chianti Classico. The steak was excellent — beautifully charred on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with that rich, smoky flavour that makes Florentine steak so special. Simple, high-quality ingredients done properly. The spinach was the perfect accompaniment and the Chianti complemented the meal beautifully. The venue itself is amazing, full of old-world charm and character with a warm, historic atmosphere that made the evening feel extra special. The restaurant was busy but in a very pleasant way — mostly smaller tables of 2–4 people which created a relaxed and intimate dining vibe without feeling overly loud or chaotic. Service throughout the evening was warm, polished and attentive. We finished the night with a lovely limoncello which was the perfect end to the meal. A very popular spot and understandably so — reservations are highly recommended.
Loved it. Was below ground level, so you have no use for your phone the entire dinner, other than for taking photos. Service was excellent, food was fantastic. Loved the cannoloni, the poached pear and the steak. Though raw wasn't my thing. Highly recommend a reservation as they do get crowded.
Please see the attached photos of the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, which Buca Lapi themselves tout as stellar -- I'll let the photo speak for themselves. When the steak arrived, I cut into a few random spots to check doneness, noticed it was sordidly overdone, and called a waiter over. They insisted this was normal and not overcooked, explaining that because it was from a female cow the meat turns a different colour than what we would be more used to seeing in bistecca alla Fiorentina. To their credit, they offered to redo it, but cautioned that it would come out exactly the same. Ironic, given their penchant for inconsistency. I was already wary of this place because of reviews of inconsistency, but for a restaurant that prides itself on bistecca alla Fiorentina, how does this even leave the kitchen? The chocolate cake they comped was stellar, though.
Went here in March of 2026, I had the steak and some mashed potatoes, safe to say it was very good. Cooked perfectly and went well with the sides. The worker was very polite and efficient. But don’t eat to much bread if you are having there famous steaks! Would give this place a BRO recommendation.
Recently in Florence and wanted a Florentine Steak. Reviews say this is the place…and they were right. The food and atmosphere is old world Italian. The owner made a great attempt to get me in after being fully reserved. If you’re looking for authentic Italian and atmosphere, this is the place.
