Art museum with Renaissance sculptures including works by Michelangelo, set in 13th-century palace.via Google
Set in a medieval fortress-prison, this museum houses an unmatched collection of Renaissance sculpture, including Donatello's bronze David.
- Good to know
- Much quieter than the Uffizi; a two-hour visit is sufficient.

This place was so beautiful and i love all the house sigil's on the ceiling. And... of course all the weapons. The art in this building is crazy. The Museo Nazionale del Bargello is a prominent art museum in Florence, Italy, known for its extensive collection of Italian Renaissance sculptures, including works by artists like Donatello and Michelangelo. Housed in the oldest public building in Florence, it offers a rich insight into the history and artistry of the Renaissance period. Notable Rooms Donatello Hall: This hall showcases nine of Donatello's masterpieces, including his famous bronze David and marble David. Islamic Hall: Established in 1982, it displays significant Islamic art pieces.
Impressive Palazzo with a great exebition. It also provides numerous benches or chairs where you can relax in the shade and admire the art at your own pace. A must visit if you are even remotely interested in art and / or the history of florence.
Fantastic museum with a range of artists and works. Three floors and each room is themed (eg ceramics, tiles, sculptures, many busts, wall tapestries……). The courtyard was beautiful and lots of benches to fit and admire everything around you.
Super interesting and no crowds. We came late afternoon on a Saturday and basically had the museum to ourselves. Many interesting exhibits ranging from sculptures, porcelain, and art to cannons and guns. We are normally not super into museums but found this very interesting and ended up spending 90 minutes here. Highly recommendable.
A visit to the Bargello Museum is a must when in Florence. I highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time to skip the lines. The museum has an excellent collection of Renaissance masterpieces, with remarkable reference works by some of Italy’s greatest artists. The historic building itself adds to the experience, making it both inspiring and unforgettable.
