Small, friendly local with real ales, plentiful malts and live Scottish folk music most nights.via Google

A world-famous folk music pub where musicians gather daily around tables for spontaneous, acoustic traditional music sessions.

I quite enjoyed my time at the pub. The band was amazing, very friendly and played fantastic music. It does have a vibe of friends gathering around and enjoying some good time playing music (as some musicians would come and go). There is one thing which I noticed being there twice (once on a Sunday evening - 20ish- and another Monday early -18ish-). Depending on the crowd and size of the band, it is best to be closer to then. On Sunday I managed to get a seat close to the door and I could hardly listen to the music as people were chatting. On the second time I managed to get a place at the corner of the bar, and then at the table very next to the musicians. I just say that these were two completely different experiences if you are looking for listening to the music. The crowd overall was very friendly, a mix of tourists and locals, are very nice :)

Really enjoyed this small bar just a bit outside the most crowded areas. Bartender was friendly as were several patrons. Did not feel filled with tourists, other than us. Live music in back area of bar was playing at about 1500 hours. Best option we found for live folk music while in town. Well worth wandering around the neighborhood. Looked like very limited food menu.

Great live folk music seven nights a week and afternoon sessions on some days as well. Stupendous 35mm malt whisky selection with a £4.60 malt of the month available as well as cask ales and craft beers. Intimate and cosy bar with wood fire in the wintertime and dog friendly. Busy at 6 and then 9 for the music starting, seating is a premium. Also it's a boozer/pub on the old fashioned way no frills, no cocktails, do the staff a favour, familiarise yourself with beers, lagers, ciders etc. What ever it is you drink when your back in your own country, they will have an equivalent.

if you’re visiting scotland then do yourself a favor and do NOT visit this bar. I repeat, don’t visit this bar. You get treated different when you are NOT scottish. The bartender in the picture is so rude (i’m shocked a person like that works in hospitality) and the service is really slow. The live music band was not IT. Would not recommend this place.

Great pub with a fantastic atmosphere. When I visited, a trio was playing Scottish folk and dive-style songs, which really set the tone for the afternoon. The fireplace adds a cozy, welcoming feel, making it a perfect place to unwind. Highly recommend.
