Amazing place to stay, Location is brilliant, paid the upgrade to a suite was 100% worth it... The staff were amazing and deffo worth trying the 'Treat me like i'm famous' experience as the cocktails were amazing and even let us order food and brought it to our room!!! Can't get over how amazing this place is!!
IF YOU DONT LIKE TINY FANCY ROOMS WITH NO SPACE AND NO STORAGE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I stayed there Dec 28,29, and 30th. Check in was weird but kind. You walk into the bar you sit down they give you a glass of prosecco and then come to you to ask questions etc, I had already answered these questions in WhatsApp that they sent me so clearly there is some organizational redundancy that they haven’t clearly created a process for. Made an unnecessary wait. After they did everything they said they would be right back to gather me and they took my things. It was probably 20 minutes. Mind you I hadn’t come in early I was there past four. It was about 25 minutes and they were going to help someone else and I asked can I please go to my room? The woman acted surprised and said she didn’t want to rush me, but I was done with a glass of prosecco they gave me 15 minutes before so I’m just sitting there waiting to get keys. She told me I had a great room, mind you it wasn’t an upgrade. I get to the room and was in shock. It was beautiful but TINY. I mean no space to have a suitcase open, no space to put anything, no space to walk around but in circles. The bathroom? Beautiful but literally LITERALLY the floor of the toilet is the floor of the shower. It was gross and had I known that there was no seperation I would have never stayed there. The bathroom and bedroom again were beautiful but tiny with no place for anything. The breakfast hamper is also very poor quality and very disappointing. Pilsbury style croissants etc. the only thing I ate was the yogurt. There’s also no natural light which sucks and didn’t realize how sucky that was till the next morning. You really don’t want to spend any time in the room it’s so small. I would have rated it lower but when a snafu of my room not being turned down happened, the manager on duty corrected it and took responsibility and tried to make it right so because of him I give overall 3 star and not 1 for a good service recovery but again I paid 500 plus pounds over 650 bucks a night for this place and I think that was a total rip off. Wish I could get my money back for what I paid… Pretty but it’s like the size of a closet, truly.
We went on a whim, when we arrived we found out the bar was mainly for hotel guests or those with reservations. The guy on the door was very kind and checked to see if there was space for us, which they were able to accommodate us. The bar area was very cute and nicely decorated, the team were very friendly and our drinks came quickly. No issues were had, cannot wait to go back!
The hotel is in a great location. It’s a busy area with lots of student bars around, however the room was quiet. Unfortunately my room smelled terrible and wasn’t very clean. When I checked in I noticed a strong smell of fried food, I assumed this was due to a the air con or the hotel kitchen and would go away. After returning from dinner a few hours later the smell was still present. In fact all sheets, towels and curtains held the same smell. After asking for help I was told that the AC would fix it, and that the smell was caused by the cleaning agent that had been used. This obviously isn’t true. Luckily I was given a bottle of air freshener to combat the smell… I’m left with a room that smells like a kebab shop and has dust and hair all over. Great location, but would not stay here again.
I love this hotel. Both Edinburgh and Glasgow are fantastic venues. My partner and I have gone a few times and are blown away every time by the fantastic service. Everyone staff member we have spoken to when staying has been utterly brilliant at making you feel welcome and free to ask if you need help with anything. The service is quick, friendly and goes beyond satisfactory. I want to shoutout Joe at the Glasgow branch as I have booked through them a couple times and they have been so accommodating and friendly. I just really get the impression that Joe cares and wants to help whatever they can to help. That goes such a long way when dealing with a business. The rooms are lovely. The Cabin and Classic rooms are small but make up for it in design and the features throughout. The Presidential Suite in Glasgow is absolutely wonderful. I can't stress enough how much I truly believe this hotel is absolutely nailing what they are trying to achieve. The hotel can be pricey but we often go for non-peak times and think the rooms are very reasonable at that time of year for a treat. Will continue staying here for the foreseeable, that's for sure. Keep up the good work HoG team!
