What an amazing meal. Arrived solo for a 5.30 meal, had a glass of rosé to go with some oysters and bone marrow with onions. Lucky enough to have the roast (with a glass of Barolo) since it was Sunday. Food was tasty. The Sticky Toffee Pidding was probably the best in town. Service was impeccable. The host Johanna has been delightful and welcoming. Definitely a 5 stars recommendation. Hopefully will have a chance to come back and dine here again. Definitely recommend this place.
My wife treated me to the Jan special set lunch menu and it didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and the Jan deals were excellent value. Loved the decor and atmosphere. The staff were attentive. The only slight disappointment was at the start of the meal, when I was at the toilet, my wife secretly informed the waiter it was my birthday and he told her he'd arrange something to mark the occasion but he must have forgot! A minor detail but it would've been a nice addition to the visit.
This was our second timing eating here and it was just as amazing as ever! Lisa was such a sweetheart of a server. She gave us excellent recommendations and managed to check in with us despite a busy Friday evening. She made our evening even better! The Caesar salad is the best we’ve had anywhere. The Fuller Fat Old Fashioned is incredible and so tasty. It was a great night. We love eating here and can’t wait to return on our next trip to Edinburgh.
I have dined in Hawksmoor in London in the past and really like their beef. Hence, when I was just in Edinburgh, decided to visit it again. Order the usual appetizer of bone marrow as well as the pork belly, both which were very delicious as expected. The real downside is unfortunately the highlight of the dinner - the beef. We ordered a large porterhouse steak and requested medium rare. Unfortunately when it came, it was more medium to well done. Even the server admitted that the doneness is wrong. He offered to change but since we had already started on the beef, we decided to continue with it. For me, doneness of the beef as requested by the customer is a top priority especially for a steak house that is well known for its beef. Even my wife commented that it was disappointing that the beef was overcooked especially for the high prices we are paying for the beef. I think what they could have done was to at least offer a free desert or drinks. Doubt I'll go back there again and will not recommend friends to visit as well.
This restaurant certainly deserves 5 stars!! We came with a reservation around 17h, we did not book for a Sunday roast specifically but they still had this available for us. We enjoyed both the winslade Wellington as the rump beef, and were pleasantly surprised by how nice their Yorkshire pudding is. The dessert menu offers a range of British 'puddings', and we chose the Sticky toffee sundae.
