Location is the best you can imagine. A stone throw from the castle and Victoria street. Loved the place. Super clean. I have never seen free milk and coffee / tea in any hostel in my life before. This was amazing. Breakfast was great. Staff was super. I can’t believe only for 5 pounds they did my laundry folded it and brought it to me… that was mind blowing . This place is just perfect. So many things to do every day but location is just the best. Things that were not the best are the showers .. very small. The curtains were stinky. Haven’t been washed or cleaned in a while. There was no hot water for a few days ….. it gets too cold. But it was still manageable. I will definitely come back
I had a great stay at Castle Rock Hostel! The location is perfect, very close to the city center, so it’s easy to walk to all the main attractions. The hostel is really big, which makes it ideal for group travelers because there’s plenty of space to relax and socialize. It’s also a great place for young people, especially because they organize fun game nights that help everyone meet and have a good time. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and would definitely recommend it.
The best location in central Edinburgh right by the castle and just 10 minute walk from the station. Friendly staff and atmosphere. The rooms are basic but clean and very comfy. 4 lounges with pool and board games. Lots of social activities through out the week. A cheap breakfast for £4 and free hot drinks. Would deffinetly recommend if you are looking for cheap, comfy, friendly accommodation in central Edinburgh!
My friends and I stayed at the castle rock hostel for Christmas and we had an incredible time. This is one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at for many reasons. The location is incredible and the hostel itself is in such a beautiful building. All the facilities were impeccable and clean. The rooms were lovely and the beds are super comfy. The staff are all really cool and lovely. The Christmas dinner they provided for only £25 per person was 3 courses and lots of wine. The main for Christmas dinner was so delicious and they were extremely generous with portion sizes! Can’t fault this place at all. It was so much fun too as they organise lots of cool activities for all the guests. Will definitely stay again and highly recommend to anyone looking to visit Edinburgh! Thank you Castle Rock team!
Nice staff, thin foam bed. I’d like to give it more stars, because the front desk staff are very helpful, professional, approachable, and hard working. The mattress: You can feel the wood below the worn out foam, by pushing one hand a few cm into it. I don’t know if all of them are like that but this was bad. At least in my room, the bed felt like an old piece of foam hollowed out by body weigh. It’s shaped like a mattress from the side, but once you get on it, you realize the weight from so much use has removed about 90% of the cushion/foam from the center. If the thin old foam is someday replaced with a modern hostel mattress, the 5 star reviews will reflect it’s value. (Wombat Hostel seemed to know where to order them.) The rest of the hostel IS great, but it’s hard to pay to sleep somewhere and then not get that. If you’d like to sleep more than two hours here-and-there book a small room and check the bed/but a refundable stay in case your mattress was like my our ten bed dorm, or maybe find a new mattress at a newer establishment. Or, if you’re on a super tight budget, just take a whole bottle of melatonin. Also of note if visiting Edinburgh but not hostel specific: this maybe true of any drinking culture people visit but the drunk tourists come staggering in from about midnight to 3:30 am, ours coughed loudly for ten minutes every 90 minutes, then set 4-5 alarms to wake up.
