The War Photo Limited museum is a powerful and deeply moving experience. It’s not a typical tourist attraction — it’s a space that confronts you with the raw realities of conflict through striking, world-class photojournalism. The exhibitions are thoughtfully curated, covering not only the wars in the Balkans but also conflicts from around the globe. Each image tells a story — some heartbreaking, some inspiring — and together they offer a profound reminder of the human cost of war. The atmosphere is quiet and respectful, allowing you to take your time and reflect. You can follow caption by phone or booklet. This is not a “light” visit, but it’s an essential one if you want to understand more about history, humanity, and resilience. It’s a sobering yet unforgettable part of Dubrovnik that stays with you long after you leave.

If you want to learn about recent Croatian history- the war in the 1990s, what happened, and why- you have to come to this museum. One exhibit consists of photographs depicting and describing the end of Yugoslavia. Another exhibit- on display through October 31, 2026- is a collection of photographs by Zoran Filipović that were taken during Croatia’s War of Independence. The images are very sobering, but they’re important to see if you want to understand what happened here.

War Photo Limited – a punch in the heart you must not skip On our very last day in the Balkans we walked into this small gallery on Antuninska street and were completely silenced. The exhibition is not big, but every single photograph hits you like a wave: burning roofs in this same Old Town in 1991–92, terrified children, proud defenders, destroyed villages, refugees… and then the map on the wall that shows how almost every house inside these beautiful walls was damaged or destroyed during the siege. Thirty years later you stroll the same polished streets full of tourists and gelato, and these images remind you what happened here while the world watched.

An excellent war photojournalism gallery featuring bravery photojournalists covering different important wars. I was glad that I learnt about this gallery in a travel brochure and made it in my first day in Old Town. I highly recommend everyone visiting Old Town the first time to stop by this gallery first before visiting the rest of the attractions. The photos of the wars, especially what Dubrovnik had gone through, definitely set the tone to the rest of my days in town and I thought about those who fought fearlessly for justice and innocents. My respect to the soldiers and the photojournalists! As cliche as it sounds, photo speaks a thousand words. Thanks for the curation!

Small museum with war pictures. Take a little time to reflect on the horrors of wars that Croatia, Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia had to face in these past decades. It wasn’t so pleasant in the sense of a fun time, but it was very informative about the history of the conflicts and it’s an important moment not to forget that Dubrovnik it’s not only beaches and game of thrones. The pictures are sad but beautiful. 10 euros the entrance. It is worth it.
