Excellent tour, Mick our guide was fantastic you could see he had a real passion for the history and stories he narrated. Really informative and interesting tour. Fantastic value for money and a must not miss on a tour of Dublin. Tickets are released 4 weeks in advance and are snapped up very quickly.
A visit to Kilmainham Gaol is an absolute must when in Dublin, especially if you have any interest in Irish history. We booked tickets in advance, which I would strongly recommend, as it’s a very popular attraction and slots fill up quickly. The tour itself lasted around an hour and was incredibly engaging from start to finish. What really made the experience stand out was our guide, Dave, who was excellent. His knowledge of the Gaol was extensive, and he delivered the information in a way that was both informative and easy to follow. He struck a great balance between storytelling and historical detail, keeping the group interested throughout. The tour covers a significant amount of Irish history, with a strong focus on some of the key figures who were imprisoned there. Walking through the cells and hearing the stories connected to them really brings the past to life in a powerful and often moving way. It’s not just a look at the building itself, but an insight into the events and people that helped shape modern Ireland. The Gaol has been very well preserved, and there’s a real sense of atmosphere as you move through the different sections. From the stark cells to the larger communal areas, each part adds to the overall experience and understanding of what life was like for those held there. Overall, this is a fascinating and worthwhile visit. The combination of a knowledgeable guide, a well-structured tour, and the historical importance of the site makes it one of the highlights of any trip to Dublin. Highly recommended.
Such an incredibly informative, eye opening and heartbreaking experience that I HIGHLY recommend for all those in the area. Either hook tickets WAY in advance or sometimes you can get cancellations day of! There was so many different stories to be told throughout and true to original spaces, our guide walked us through with so much knowledge of it all!
Excellent tour guide gave us a fantastic tour of this fascinating facility! Tons of Irish history that resonates when you walk through it. Our guide did a great job of being aware of his audience, but you may not want to bring young children on the tour due to some of the gruesome history that is discussed.
What an unbelievable experience. I want to start with the staff, everyone was so incredibly kind and helpful! Easy process to navigate upon arrival and then through the self tour. But the guided tour led by Alan, was one of the best tour experiences my husband and I ever had. Alan shared the history of Kilmainham, the history of Ireland, in such a beautiful tragic way that was both informative and emotional. The impact that this tour had and the way you feel the history in the room was intense, but the way Alan told the story of Irish history was astonishing - he made the experience that much better. If I’m ever back in Dublin I would go on this tour again.
