Amazing place for travellers and backpackers, it has a chill vibe with in house bar and many games and activities. Every evening they conduct activities in the bar area. The property is located just near Jameson Distillery, so whiskey lovers will love it. They have a 360 degree sky view from old Jameson Distillery chimney tower which is located within the property. Stores like LIDL, Tesco are close, many restaurants in the area and Tram station is also close by. Generator Hostel rooms are clean, ample storage facility available inside the rooms, bathrooms are clean as well.
Would not book here again. Bathrooms were gross and felt dirty - showers super tiny and uncomfortable. I’m small and still felt like I was squishing into them. Switched rooms and somehow ended up with a broken bathroom door, told staff and they just offered for us to use a sign on the front door which they didn’t have. Had to use an Irish flag that we ended up having to hand write “BUSY” on so no one would open the door on someone. Originally booked a mixed dorm, but somehow being the only girl in a room of 5 guys was normal? Asked to be switched and thankfully that was the least they could do. I would love to say you pay for what you get, but I don’t even think the price was worth it. Be warned, this hostel also has NO AC and NO FANS!! While typically it’s not too hot in Ireland it was very warm and with the windows open it still had no air flow. I love the Generator hostels but this is not a place I would recommend unless you are passing through.
Youth prison-style hostel that asks you to pay for everything extra. I’ve been to Eastern European trucker stops that are cleaner and better. Mold and dust come with the room, towels don’t. Would recommend looking further for your stay in Dublin.
I had a very disappointing experience with this hostel’s booking process. I made a reservation for February 22 and clearly indicated my arrival time would be between 12:00 and 01:00. The system accepted my check-in time and processed my payment without any issue, so I reasonably assumed everything was confirmed and finalized my travel plans accordingly. Later, I received an email stating that my check-in time was denied and that my booking was not complete. There was no phone call, no immediate notification, and no opportunity to adjust my arrival time before the booking was effectively cancelled. This left me scrambling to find alternative accommodation at very short notice. I called the number associated with the hostel 5 times, no awnser just left a voicemail box that was full. If late check-in is not permitted, the booking system should not accept those times or process payment in the first place. Taking payment and then denying the agreed arrival time is misleading and extremely inconvenient for travellers, especially those arriving on overnight transport. Unfortunately, this experience has caused unnecessary stress and has made me question the reliability of their reservation system. I would recommend that future guests confirm late arrival policies directly before booking to avoid a similar situation.
My week long stay in August 2025 was far from being satisfactory and did not match my experience at other Generator locations. 1. On my check-in day, a male team member at the front desk was chatting and laughing with a group of non-Asian guests. After that group left, and just when I thought this hostel had a good vibe and said "good day" to him with a smile, his face immediately dropped. I did not do or say anything that I could think annoyed him. He was cold and distant to me consistently the next day when I asked a question. (Another employee was very kind to me tho.) It could be wrong, but one apparent reason was that I am Asian. 2. There were lots of 'teenage-ish' guests that would do pranks like knocking at your door. The rooms are close to the upstairs 'lounge/drinking area' and alleys - so good luck if you want to open the windows. Even after midnight, they were often yelling, running, and arguing, while intoxicated, within and near the hostel, which was not addressed by the hostel team. This place might suit these group travelers well, but not adults who want to go to bed before the next morning. 3. During my stay, the police came at least once, and I was not aware of the reasons.
