Visiting Dublin Castle was an incredible journey through history and architecture. This place is not just a castle it’s a living timeline of Ireland. Originally built in the 13th century as a medieval fortress, it later transformed into a beautiful Georgian style complex, blending different architectural styles in one location. Walking through the courtyard and exploring the buildings, you can truly feel the evolution from a defensive stronghold to an elegant palace. The preserved Record Tower gives you a glimpse of the original medieval structure, while the State Apartments showcase refinement, elegance, and historical importance. The atmosphere is rich with histor, for over 700 years, it served as the center of British rule in Ireland. Overall, an iconic and meaningful place combining history, architecture, and cultural significance. A must visit in Dublin for anyone who appreciates heritage and timeless design.
This was the most unusual looking castle that I have been to. It had a turret but was more like official rooms/buildings. Having said that I really enjoyed it. I arrived at opening 9 45 and bought a self guided ticket for 8eu. Wifi is available throughout and most areas have info boards as you go around. The paid tour only costs 12eu and gives access to more rooms so is probably the better option. Beautiful rooms restored and some amazing paintings throughout. Good value for money and great on a wet day.
Visited Dublin Castle as part of a group tour and it was a very interesting and well-organized historical site. Located in the heart of Dublin, it is easily accessible and a convenient stop for both tourists and group travelers. The castle offers a mix of history and architecture, with beautifully maintained interiors, especially the State Apartments, which showcase elegant design and historical significance. The grounds are also well-kept, allowing visitors to explore comfortably. What stood out the most is the historical importance of the site, combined with its modern-day use for state events. The overall visitor flow is smooth, even during busy periods, and staff are helpful and informative. Highly recommended for history lovers and anyone visiting Dublin who wants to explore an important cultural landmark.
