Finally ticking off Iconic Karim’s from my wishlist. Karim’s OG branch near Jama Masjid place surrounded by years of hype and legendary status. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations. We ordered chicken biryani (half), mutton seekh kebab, and their signature mutton nihari along with sheermal. The food was strictly average—nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The chicken biryani lacked depth of flavor and felt quite ordinary. It’s hard for south indian. The mutton seekh kebabs were decent but not juicy or standout as you’d expect from such a famous spot. The mutton nihari, which is often talked about as a must-try, was mildly flavored and too much oil. The meat was slow-cooked and tender. The sheermal was soft, but it was on sweeter side. The dishes felt overpriced for the quality and taste being served. Also, No hot water was provided on request. Overall - The taste doesn’t justify the hype or the cost. Worth a visit once for the name.
If you’re exploring food in Old Delhi, a visit to Karim's is almost inevitable—and honestly, it lives up to much of its legendary status, though not without a few things to keep in mind. Tucked in the narrow, buzzing lanes near Jama Masjid, Karim’s feels like stepping into a piece of history. The place carries an old-world charm—nothing fancy, no over-the-top decor—but that’s exactly what adds to its authenticity. It’s about the food here, not the frills. Coming to the food, this is where Karim’s truly shines. Their mutton dishes are rich, deeply flavorful, and cooked with that signature Mughlai depth you don’t easily find everywhere. The Mutton Korma and Mutton Burra are standout items—perfectly spiced, tender, and satisfying without being unnecessarily heavy. The kebabs, especially the seekh and shammi, are soft and well-balanced in flavor. Pair everything with their khamiri roti or roomali roti, and you’ve got a meal that feels complete. That said, it’s not a “perfect” experience. The place is almost always crowded, service can feel rushed, and seating is quite basic. Hygiene is decent for a place in such a busy locality, but don’t expect fine-dining standards. Also, if you’re someone who prefers mild flavors, the richness of the gravies might feel a bit overwhelming. Overall, Karim’s is less about comfort and more about legacy and taste. It’s one of those places you visit to understand Delhi’s food culture rather than just to dine out casually. Imperfect in some ways, but still absolutely worth experiencing at least once.
Had chicken biryani and kheer at Karim’s, and honestly both were wow. The biryani was full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and comforting in the best way. The chicken was tender, the rice was fragrant, and nothing felt heavy or over-spiced. Just balanced, proper biryani. Finished with kheer, and that sealed it. Creamy, mildly sweet, and fresh—exactly how kheer should be. Simple, satisfying, and memorable. Karim’s gets the basics right, and that’s what matters. Definitely a place I’d return to when I’m craving good food done well.
Its a place that you'll can visit for the Hype. Few dishes were good like the sheek Kebab,Mutton korma and Kaimer roti other than this we also tried Burra Kebab, Nihari korma and Biryani all there were very average specially biryani was very bad.. I guess they use Dalda for Biryani as it was very greasy and couldn't wash the fat from our hand for very long. The service was good and fast.. cleanliness is very poor.
We tried their Nihari, Roti and chicken Biryani.. We loved the Nihari which was full of flavours.. recommend to eat the Roti fast as it gets harder.. Biryani was average and a bit oily.. The ambience, service was great.. highly recommended.. spent around 900 rupees.
