Andhra Bhavan Canteen is often spoken about as one of the well-known places in central Delhi for affordable Andhra-style meals, especially thalis, and it is indeed located inside Andhra Pradesh Bhavan on Ashoka Road / Feroze Shah Road with meal service commonly listed around breakfast, lunch, and dinner slots. However, my personal experience with the veg thali was disappointing. The food looked filling, but the taste was very average and nowhere close to the hype this place receives. For a canteen that is known for Andhra meals and is frequently recommended for its thali and refills, I genuinely expected much better flavour, better balance of spices, and a more satisfying overall meal. The bigger issue was the mismanagement. The place was extremely crowded, and the staff on duty did not seem sufficient for the volume of diners. Because of that, there was unnecessary waiting even for basic things like a glass of water, spoon, and regular servings. When a dining hall is running full, service speed and coordination matter just as much as the food, and that was missing here. The atmosphere felt more chaotic than enjoyable. Instead of a smooth, efficient meal, it turned into a tiring experience. For first-time visitors coming with high expectations of “famous Andhra Bhavan thali in Delhi,” this can be quite underwhelming. My honest takeaway: Come only if you want to try it once for the name and popularity. But based on this visit, I found the veg thali average in quality, weak in taste, and poorly managed in service. The reputation is much stronger than the actual experience I had. Good to know before visiting: Expect crowds, possible waiting, and very basic canteen-style seating.

It's a mess to get into the restaurant, to buy the token, to find a seat. It's a total mess. The entire restaurant is claustrophobic, unhygienic, noisy and crowded. I had to wait 45 minutes to get a seat. I had the most popular thali, which was delicious and served unlimited. The service is lightning fast and commendable, they keep asking all the time what else do we need. Dishes are served hot and fresh. I just say that the food was really delicious and most authentic. But yes, it was oily and served unhygienic. The floor, seating, wash area all are cramped and untidy.

Tucked in the heart of New Delhi near India Gate on Ashoka Road, Andhra Bhavan Canteen is a local institution that food lovers often swear by for flavourful, traditional Andhra meals without the fuss of a fancy restaurant. The canteen’s reputation is built on its authenticity, generous portions, and wallet-friendly prices, making it a must-try for anyone wanting a genuine taste of southern cuisine in the capital. The moment you step in, you’ll notice the bustling, no-frills atmosphere — a large dining hall with communal seating, a steady stream of customers, and an efficient token system to manage the crowd. It can get crowded during peak lunch hours (especially around midday and on weekends), so be prepared for a bit of wait before getting your seat. Food here is the real star. The unlimited veg thali comes with steaming rice, sambar, rasam, dal, vegetables, chutneys, papad, curd, and sweet, all served with generous refills — a delightful spread that highlights the bold, balanced flavours Andhra cuisine is known for. The non-veg options, including mutton curry, chicken fry, and special Sunday Hyderabadi dum biryani, are also widely praised for their rich spice profiles and satisfying portions. Service is surprisingly prompt for such a busy place. Once you get inside, food reaches your table quickly, and staff are generally courteous and attentive. The vibe is lively and communal — you’ll share tables with students, office workers, tourists, and regulars alike, which adds to the charm. That said, the canteen isn’t without its critiques. Some visitors note that ambience and cleanliness could be improved, and at times the interiors may feel cramped and noisy. A few reviewers have mentioned occasional inconsistencies in food temperature or hygiene standards. Overall, Andhra Bhavan Canteen remains a beloved culinary landmark in Delhi — classic, hearty, and authentic. If you love bold South Indian flavours and don’t mind a bustling setting, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

Absolutely loved the food here! 😋 The South Indian dishes were spot on and the non-veg options were delicious too! The ambience was cozy and perfect for a casual dinner. I highly recommend trying their regular food meal, Mutton curry and fish fry 😍. Great value for money!

90% people have better cooking skills than this canteen's chef..... You may eat food from any hostel or mid-day meal provided by the govt.. There taste even better then this.... You need to take dinner at 6:30 pm 😂because they need to sell thali for one person(sharing not allowed) No tea, No coffee after breakfast..... I didn't take photos of food meanwhile campus is good.
