One of the best place to be in old Delhi. If you want to taste what Mutton Nihari is, this is definitely the place to be. The khamiri roti and Mutton Nahari combination js just amazing. I ordered 2 plates of Nihari just for myself. Service is good, you would have to tolerate the old delhi location. But I bet it has the taste hou are looking in a Mutton dish. In front of Delhi Jama Masjid.
Visited Al Jawahar near Jama Masjid and it definitely lives up to its reputation for being one of the busiest and most popular spots in the area. The place was packed, which always raises expectations. Walking in, you expect bold, unapologetic Mughlai flavours, the kind that define Old Delhi’s culinary identity. The mutton seekh kebab was the highlight. Soft, tender, and beautifully spiced, it had that perfect balance of smokiness and warmth. Juicy without being greasy, it captured exactly what you hope for in a classic Mughlai kebab. The chicken biryani was Lucknow-style. Lighter in colour and more delicate in spice compared to the richer, potato-laced Kolkata biryani my taste buds are used to. While it was fragrant and well-cooked, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations in terms of richness and depth. The mutton rogan josh was flavourful and aromatic, but its texture leaned more toward a qorma than a traditional rogan josh. Still good, just not exactly what I expected. Overall, Al Jawahar lives up to its popularity in terms of atmosphere and heritage. The food reflects Old Delhi’s Mughlai roots, though not every dish may match the legend that surrounds it.
The restaurant stands out for its cleanliness, surpassing most others in the area. Service is quick, and the staff are courteous and attentive. The food maintains good quality, though the prices are slightly above nearby alternatives. Still, the emphasis on hygiene and the overall dining experience makes the premium worthwhile. After all, Old Delhi is more than just a place — it’s an emotion, a memory, and for the lucky ones, a meal to remember.
Our experience was good.. Food: was tasty and decent quantity aswell. Dishes were clean and hygiene was maintained. Also the food was fresh and flavourfull.. Service: Staff was fast and respect full also pulled chairs for us. Rest spoke well and assisted us as required. Atmosphere: As I went late night was calm and quite peaceful no unwanted music was played and was place clean and nice. Not too elegant or too facncybut decent for a casual foodies dine in setup.
The food is great, mutton is amazing and well cooked, very tender. Although the price-to-portion ratio is questionable. Worth a visit.
