Built during the 16th & 17th centuries, this grand cathedral is filled with colonial paintings.via Google
An imposing cathedral built using stones looted from the nearby Sacsahuaman fortress, containing an incredible collection of Cusqueña school colonial art.
- Good to know
- Separate entry ticket required. Look for the syncretic details, like indigenous flora and fauna hidden in Catholic imagery.

I attended daily mass at 7 am, and the church was packed from the previous service. I refrained from taking many photos inside out of respect and consideration, as it’s a place of faith. The church is larger than I had anticipated. The architecture is typical of Spanish-built cathedrals, but it also incorporates art from Escuela Cuzqueña, which is truly impressive. I didn’t expect to see so much art in there. If you can take the tour outside of service hours, I highly recommend it. It’s worth it.
A magnificent cathedral built over nearly a century on the foundations of the Inca Palace of Viracocha, using red granite hauled from the Sacsayhuamán fortress. Inside, don't miss the famous painting of 'The Last Supper' by Marcos Zapata, which features a local delicacy—a roasted guinea pig (cuy)—on the plate. The interior is a treasure trove of the Cusco School of Art, boasting an incredible silver altar and the 'Señor de los Temblores,' the city's most revered statue.
A catherdal built in the 16th century though it was restored after the 1671 earthquake. It has many paintings throughout. Crypts can be found inside. The have many places showing joesph holding baby Jesus instead of Mary. They also have the grandparents of Mary. A uneso recognized site as seen by the blue and white symbol outside.
If you decide to go definitely get a guide. It made the difference between an excellent visit or just another church. I don’t think getting the ticket to include the other two churches is necessary. Just get the cathedral. We got them all and it wasn’t worth the time - we should have gone to other museums instead.
Stunning cathedral with unparalleled in situ Escuela de Cusqueña works
