We had registered on the waitlist for Saturday the 20/12.. so decided to head down at opening (11.30am) to see if by any chance we could get a table. Thankfully they were able to accommodate a 1.5hr seating. I think we were lucky as many other groups came in and were turned away. Reservations are needed. What can I say.. best meal we have had in Denmark and actually haven't had such a good experience in a while. The food was amazing and the service on point. Thanks to the team for such a good lunch. We were so happy to celebrate our anniversary there today.
Went here for Julefrokost/Christmas dinner in several servings. It was not too much food, as it can be sometimes. The tastes were good, but they could have presented it a bit nicer. Nice interior, but not as cosy as the true smørrebrød places.
Just giving 4 stars because of the price of the food, but everything else was stellar. I do think the dishes are overpriced: for example their special dish of the day shrimps with white asparagus was $43 USD. It was quite a small dish to be asking that much money. However I do recommend a visit as the restaurant is beautiful and the service is top notch. I recommend the fried herring dish with sauteed onions in particular. The potato with fish roe sauce was really good too. And you cant go wrong with the meatballs. You get two very delicious meatballs and it comes with a beautiful side salad/potato emulsion type dish. We walked in and they were kind enough to seat us with no reservation at 1230pm on a sunday. I saw a lot of empty tables while we were in there so I guess they weren’t particularly busy. But when we arrived they were not certain of being able to seat us at first (3 adults and one toddler).
Overall excellent open sandwiches (smoerrebroed), the components skilfully prepared and the sandwiches carefully assembled. However, I found some flavours unbalanced, such as the sweet and sourness of the herring and the sweet and fruity pickle on the smoked mackerel, which I think goes better with a salty and sour profile. The service was exceptionally friendly, smiling and helpful and the place oozed of good atmosphere and vibe. Finally, I did not enjoy that the waiter asked for a tip. This is the third time this has happened to me in Copenhagen in two days and I have now adopted a strict no tip policy when asked for one.
First meal in Copenhagen. The red herring was great and I enjoyed it. For the prawn, I will prefer it to be more crunchy. Overall, a nice experience for Danish cuisine.
