Just outstanding. The staff were wonderfully helpful and kind. The building is amazingly beautiful and clean. My room was clean and very comfortable. I found the physical key to be charmingly out of date and a nice touch that matched the overall aesthetics of the place. The room was well-furnished as well and the toiletries provided smelled amazing! Breakfast was of outstanding quality and options with great service. I wish I'd stayed longer but I really did enjoy my visit here.

Beautiful hotel, great staff. Terrace a highlight. Food at Hanse Stube is good but could be slightly more memorable but nice elements. Rooms slightly dated sadly and overall some parts of the hotel need investment. The main entrance outside needs a clean and update and some of the interior elements could be brought into 2026. Even so, the hotel has a charm and the staff are very kind. Very clean and elements reminiscent of Paris luxury. A couple of changes and this could be among the top tier hotels in Western Europe.

My family and I were doing a 4 week long Europe trip when I booked our stay at Excelsior. This hotel by far exceeds any hospitality of any other we stayed in during our trip. We are a very simplistic family look wise, but we enjoy a nice place to rest our head when traveling. We never felt uncomfortable or out of place, and Excelsior over delivered. From the small touches for our 4 year old such as a welcome teddy bear, hygiene kit, and a chosen time for warm milk before bed, to the immediate welcome and assistance from the bellhop and desk representative, Annika - everything was just great. I really enjoyed the welcome card and snacks after a long trip. The mini bar had a few things but most notably a great apple cider and milk for coffee. The breakfast buffet catered to many preferences. The bed was superior, and the view of the cathedral is something I will never forget. Everyone we encountered in the hotel was helpful and welcoming. We will definitely be back and recommend to anyone.

An outstanding stay at the Hotel Excelsior Ernst in Cologne. What truly sets this hotel apart is the exceptional level of service — among the finest I have ever experienced. From the warm welcome at reception to the attentive care throughout the stay and at breakfast, every interaction felt genuinely thoughtful and refined. We were graciously upgraded to a beautiful room and welcomed with a delightful chocolate tart and a handwritten note. The breakfast was equally enjoyable, set in an elegant and inviting atmosphere. Combined with the hotel’s impressive architecture and tasteful interior design, it is ultimately the impeccable service that makes this place so special.
