Visited the lobby area to finish out the night after dinner with the ladies! Nice spot with a nice crowd. Had good drinks, especially liked the spicy margarita! Has a speakeasy downstairs. DJ could've played better music for the crowd in my opinion. Will return!
The good: Staff is very attentive Rooms are bright with open views Real milk in room fridge for free, along with coffee pods and kettle Great location in West Loop Great lobby and coffee bar, multiple restaurants The bad: The hotel sits right next to subway tracks, and you can hear train vibrations in rooms that face the street The ac/heating system isn’t easy to adjust (buttons feel broken) and the blower is noisy Room smelled heavily of air freshener Bathroom door closes automatically You can hear all of your neighbors close their doors - room and bathroom. And corridor noise not blocked at all
Overall, I’d give The Hoxton, Chicago a 4.1/10. For the price point and reputation, it really did not meet expectations. The hotel feels more focused on getting people to spend money at their restaurants and bars than taking care of the actual hotel guests staying there. One of the biggest disappointments was not even being able to get a reservation at the rooftop restaurant within 3 hours while being a guest at the hotel. For a property that markets itself as an upscale experience, you’d expect hotel guests to have some level of priority or accommodation. I booked through the American Express Hotel Collection and unfortunately they also did not honor the complimentary room upgrade or the late checkout benefits that are commonly associated with Hotel Collection bookings. That made the experience even more disappointing, especially considering the premium price. Compared to other Hotel Collection properties, this one fell short in service, guest experience, and overall value for the money. The aesthetic and location are nice, but overall the experience didn’t justify the cost or the rating this hotel currently has. I’d honestly recommend booking at the SoHo House if you’re looking for a social based hotel with similar price point but with a more luxury feel.
My wife and I have stayed here every Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Never disappoints. We always get the “Cozy” room and they are spacious. Lobby area is full of life and cozy. The restaurant has amazing food and is open Christmas day. Front desk staff are always polite. Highly recommend!
Air conditioning is incredibly loud, but also doesn’t cool the room. The beds are sagging in the middle, and incredibly uncomfortable. In fact, the beds are so uncomfortable that I could not sleep and that’s the only reason I am writing this review. Location is great. Staff was not very helpful, but I assume it’s just because they can’t help with a broken air conditioner or old beds. Also, they stopped giving water bottles in the room, now you can refill a bottle yourself in the hallway if you need. For an extra bonus, the fridges in the rooms are warm so you can’t have cold water! Please. Reconsider staying here. I wish we would have. I could have been just as uncomfortable for a quarter of the price. Lastly, the only impressive point here is how the rooms in a Chicago hotel manage to be smaller than in NYC.
