This hostel is too expensive compared to what you get!! Our room smelled of dirty socks, and you cannot open the window. There is AC, but we overheard some say their AC was not working and their room was unbearably hot. Our room was dark, and there were almost no shelves to put your stuff on, so everything was on the floor. The showers are okay if you like to shower with cold water, however some days the water pressure was really low. The pool looks very run down and dirty. There is only one place with tables to sit and eat, but there is really really loud music (like really loud) every afternoon/evening. Our room was placed just in front of this area, so if you’re feeling a bit under the weather or want to relax one evening, you cannot (unless you go sit in the lobby). To say some positive things, the location is good and if you want to party and drink alcohol they have lots of events, so you can easily meet other people. However, we do not recommend!! We have heard that viajero in gestemani is better, so maybe try that one instead. It is close by and it’s easy to walk from gestemani to the walled city.
I stayed there for a total of three nights, and the atmosphere was amazing. The activities organized to help people meet each other were really well thought out and made it easy to connect with others. The dorms were comfortable and well maintained, and the bathrooms were always clean. Andrea, who organizes the activities, was incredibly welcoming and inclusive, especially since I was traveling solo. Overall, it was the best choice I could have made as a solo traveler.
I had a mixed stay here. The hostel has a very social atmosphere, fun activities, a central location, and friendly staff overall. We met great people. That said, the overall standard felt low and disappointing, especially compared to other Viajero hostels we’ve stayed at. The hostel seemed poorly managed: the bathrooms often smelled bad, sometimes had no toilet paper or soap, and for much of our stay the showers had no water or only cold water. We also experienced a power outage on arrival. Check-in was not helpful, and no one explained the facilities, so we only discovered things like the kitchen, laundry room, and complimentary morning coffee and tea on our last day. Our room was very small for the price, with little space for belongings, and the AC remote did not allow temperature control. Other downsides were the unclean pool, overpriced and mediocre food, pressure to book expensive tours through the hostel, and poor support for anything outside their own services. We also had a bottle of gin stolen from the shared fridge. Noise at night was another big issue, including staff making loud noise in the lobby at 3 a.m. even after we asked them to be quieter. Overall, this hostel felt too expensive for what it offers. Just book a cheaper hotel and go there at the evening to join the activities.
The beds are the only really good thing about the hostel. But the ac is only turned on during the night, so it gets unbearably hot during the day. The showers have almost no pressure and are only cold. The pool is very dirty, and very small. There is a lot of crochets around the whole property, and we saw a mouse going in the wall of the bar one of the days. They give you a discount on Hostelworld, if you give them full starts, so can’t really count on that. Overall wouldn’t stay here again.
Large rooms for 10-12 people have no windows, they smell really bad like dirty socks. This particular hostel is not worth the money, it’s very old and run down, the other Viajero at Getsemaní where I was before is so much better, also I was at Viajero in Quito, it was also very nice.
