The Zeitz has been on my list to visit, when in Cape Town, for a while now and it certainly didn't disappoint! The approach to transforming the architecture of the silos into this iconic building makes just walking around it something to discover - impressive in places and striking in others, the architecture is stunning. Add the different floors of art exhibitions and galleries, and you can spend hours exploring. The variety in exhibition styles mean you could spend ages absorbing some artworks, and a brief walk through others, depending on what draws you in the most. On my visit, a large number of the exhibitions were an infusion of colour, vibrancy and different mediums, which I loved!! I hope I have an opportunity to return again soon, because it's an incredible space!
The Zeitz Museum, of course, is worth a visit, but nothing more than that. The building is very nice and unique, and the terrace and cafe are also very nice. However, the collection is rather poor. I think, as a place for Contemporary Art Africa, it should offer greater diversity and richer art.
The Zeitz MOCAA (located at the V&A Waterfront Silo District) is a world-class cultural landmark and an absolute must-visit when you are in Cape Town. Even before you look at the art, the building itself is a breathtaking marvel, it was carved out of an old, historic 1921 grain silo complex. The way the architects hollowed out the concrete center to look like a giant grain of corn is spectacular and makes for an iconic photo. The Highlights: 1. The Art: It holds the world’s largest collection of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. The exhibitions are bold, thought-provoking, and deeply impactful, spread across nine floors. 2. The Views: Don't miss taking the futuristic cylindrical glass elevators up to the top floors for a stunning, unique view of the harbor and Table Mountain. 3. Proximity: It is located in a highly secure, upscale precinct with fantastic restaurants right outside the door, making it very safe for an afternoon excursion. Good to Know for Visitors: 1. Time: Give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours to truly explore the galleries without rushing. 2. Photography: Non-flash photography is fully allowed and highly encouraged, the symmetry of the concrete architecture creates some of the best geometric photos you can take in South Africa. Whether you are an avid art lover or just appreciate incredible engineering and global African excellence, this museum is worth every cent of the admission fee!
Many different exhibits and your ticket lasts all day which is great if you want to come and go! International student id accepted for lower rate. We went during a live performance which was awesome. You can easily spend 1-3 hours here depending on how quickly you move through it.
One of the best cultural/art museums I’ve visited. Gerard Sedoko’s works and life story were captivating. The building itself is an architectural marvel, a 100 year old grain silo & elevator meticulously reconditioned to a capacious display hall.
