Long-established steakhouse with specialities such as ostrich and springbok in unfussy setting.via Google

A retro, dimly lit steakhouse that has resisted changing its classic, cozy aesthetic since the late 1960s.

Signature
The Pepper Fillet, flambéed tableside with brandy.

Isabsolutely delicious—tender, well-seasoned, steak and cooked to perfection, easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the pork chop didn’t hit the mark; it was way too sweet for my taste, and I found it quite underwhelming overall. The restaurant’s atmosphere is a major plus—it’s so retro and stylish, with eye-catching displays that are genuinely fun to look at. That said, the service was just average, nothing particularly impressive or memorable. Given the pricing, I feel it’s a bit on the steep side for what you get. I’d probably only bring friends who are visiting Cape Town for the first time, just so they can enjoy the unique vibe—though I’d definitely steer them toward the steak and skip the pork chop.

Nelson’s Eye is always my first stop straight from the airport whenever I land in Cape Town. The quality of the beef is outstanding, and paired with a great Pinotage, it creates a food experience I always remember. The owner, Steve, is a true local legend and adds a unique character to the place. What’s impressive is that over the years, it just keeps getting better. Highly recommended if you’re in Cape Town.

I was really excited to finally visit Nelson’s Eye, as I’ve always wanted go there and was invited there for dinner by a friend. Unfortunately, my experience did not live up to my expectations. I ordered a steak, but found it very chewy and difficult to enjoy. The side vegetables were also underwhelming, and the baked potato was not fully cooked in the center. Considering the high prices, this was disappointing. The restaurant itself has a very old-school, retro atmosphere, which some people may appreciate. On a positive note, the waiter was friendly and provided very good service throughout the evening. Perhaps my expectations were higher because I had recently enjoyed an excellent steak at another restaurant, and given Nelson’s Eye’s long-standing reputation, I expected a similar, if not better dining experience but left feeling disappointed.

Sides or salad not good. Kudu carpaccio was nice. Spring Bock steak is great option and it‘s really nice. Oven potato was ok. Tables could be cleaner.
